🚨 Today is the last day to submit a public comment to oppose a proposed power transmission line that would cut through the heart of Caja del Rio in New Mexico. The Caja del Rio is a landscape of immense cultural and spiritual significance for many Pueblos and Hispanic communities throughout Northern New Mexico. Constructing a power transmission line through the Caja would put this sacred land in immediate danger, causing irreversible damage to the landscape by causing erosion, water quality degradation, habitat fragmentation, and increased opportunity for illegal off-highway vehicle use on this very sensitive landscape. https://lnkd.in/ezCWHpRU

Farmers Wife & founder of Save Old Malton Countryside to protect BMV farmland and our AHA Tenant Farm from solar development by Harmony Energy. Founding member of the Solar Alliance.
I am very grateful to BBC and Countryfile for once again, highlighting just some of far reaching consequences of large scale ground mounted solar development. Ok the piece did not cover so many of the wider issues (we would need an entire programme for that!) and it is unfair to compare a low impact solar site to potentially the largest scheme in Europe- Sunnica- but the most important thing is we are being heard and our opinions are being sought. It is fair to say when we first started talking about the challenges of solar on farmland 4 years ago, it was a relatively unknown topic, well not any more! 📣👏 Together with a small number of other campaigners, I helped to establish the #uksolaralliance and we now represent around 120 communities challenging inappropriate large scale solar developments. We are making a difference. We are seeing more applications and appeals refused around the country, in some part due to the hard work of the UK Solar Alliance. It is not about saying no to solar, quite the opposite. It is about finding better solar solutions. We will get there but only if all parties work together. Well done Catherine Judkins, Chair of the Alliance for putting over the case and good luck with the Sunnica decision due this week. 🤞 Watch from around 15.5 mins in. #uksolar #solar #bbc #saveoldmaltoncountryside #campaign #climatejustice #netzero #green #future #communitymatters Tenant Farmers Association NFU (National Farmers' Union) #northyorkshire

🎉Every step in the right direction has to be celebrated. 🎉This week brought fantastic news for #marineconservation efforts in Ireland and Europe. With new financing secured for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and the passing of the Nature Restoration Law, we're paving the way for a healthier #ocean ecosystem. 🌊 💶Ireland has secured €15.14million towards developing its network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Irish waters as part of the European Commission LIFE Funding Program. Match funding of €10million will be provided by the Irish Government.🌎 💶This new funding is a great step in the right direction. A huge congratulations to all the team at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and partners at University of Galway, University College Dublin and University College Cork for securing this funding. European Funding is not for the faint-hearted, it requires huge dedication and diligence to secure. Last year Fair Seas published the first Sustainable Finance Report in Europe highlighting that Ireland needed to secure €55million to implement effective Marine Protected Areas. We're nearly halfway to our target of €55 million, thanks to this new funding. 🎯 This good news story in Ireland came just before the Nature Restoration Bill was passed in the EU this week. This bill aims to restore 20% of EU land and 20% of EU seas by 2030 and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. This new European legislation coupled with our soon-to-be finalised national MPA legislation gives us hope for a brighter future for our ocean. 🌊 #FairSeas #30x30Ireland #RestoreNature P.S. The mini explorations continue down under, this photo was taken on the Gold Coast, exploring the sand and surf on Surfers Paradise Beach. The water was a balmy 26c and the surf was lively. This long stretch of beach is beautiful, it appears to go on forever with over 57km of beach and more than 40 Lifeguard stations. Very different and a bit colder than our usual West Cork beaches. 🙃
