Exciting News In Sports: The Unsponsored Project by Bandit Running Lately, I’ve noticed some interesting shifts in the world of sports sponsorship. One of the coolest initiatives I’ve come across is the Unsponsored Project by Bandit Running. They’re all about supporting unsponsored athletes betting on themselves at the 2024 Olympic Trials. Back in 2023, Bandit Running started this project by backing 9 amazing athletes. Fast forward to 2024, and they’re now supporting over 30 athletes with unbranded kits and financial help to cover the costs of competing. This idea came from the many conversations around the industry about how sports need to evolve and help empower the athlete. Despite all the great work being done, many athletes still need sponsorship. It’s tough to manage the costs of training and competing at the highest levels without some backing. Bandit Running has stepped in to change that. They’re giving these athletes the visibility they deserve with unbranded gear – such as singlets, crops, quarter-tights, buns, and warm-ups. These athletes get to show their “brand independence” as they chase their Olympic dreams. If you caught the Trials, the athletes in black, unbranded kits stand out from their sponsored competitors. This isn’t about traditional sponsorship deals. It’s more like short-term partnerships aimed at giving unsponsored athletes a chance to shine and eventually land a larger deal. The goal is to support their journeys without the usual logos and branding. I think this is pretty awesome and inspiring. Many race drivers fail due to sponsorship. Here's why: 🏎️ Brands don't have extra money. 🏎️ A day at the races can't be claimed as marketing. 🏎️ There's not enough money for everyone! These are, of course, all FALSE excuses that race drivers make. Why? Race drivers pitch the same package to every company they talk to. A logo on a car and in hospitality isn't marketing. There's definitely plenty of money in society!
