📢 Exciting Industry Update 🌐💼 The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) has taken significant action, imposing a fine of USD 1.37 million on R.J. O'Brien (MENA) Capital Limited for compliance shortcomings. The Firm, facing penalties due to inadequate systems and controls, took a proactive step by offering an Enforceable Undertaking (EU) to address the issues. Despite a reduced fine, the DFSA highlighted that the Firm neglected proper planning after acquiring an additional brokerage, leading to regulatory breaches. Notably, senior management awareness of compliance resource deficiencies without adequate intervention was a key concern. Encouragingly, the Firm's commitment to an EU signifies a dedication to remedying the shortcomings. The DFSA applauds their pledge to enhance systems, engage an external compliance expert, and verify remediation completion. Patrick Meaney, Head of Enforcement at DFSA, emphasizes the crucial role of compliance, stating, "Compliance is not an incidental cost of doing business; it is a critical function that must be adequately resourced."
