On this International LGBTQI+ Pride Day and throughout the year, we international development practitioners are reminded of the crucial importance of amplifying the voices of the LGBTQI+ community in project design and programming. Such inclusion is essential to end discrimination, uphold human rights, and ensure sustainable development for all. Our Managing Director for Latin America, Galo Quizanga, emphasizes, "In our commitment to equity and human rights, it is crucial to acknowledge that globally, 9 out of 10 youth who identify as LGBTQI+ face discrimination or violence. LGBTQI+ rights are fundamental human rights, and we cannot allow anyone to be left behind. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we strengthen our support for this community to ensure that everyone lives in peace and dignity." We remain committed to prioritizing inclusion efforts and are encouraged to see development leaders like USAID focusing on LGBTQI+ inclusive development. https://lnkd.in/g_ajjpQ5 #Inclusion #InclusiveDevelopment #LGBTQI #Youth #Pride #HumanRights #InclusionMatters

No One Left Behind: Building an Inclusive Future for the LGBTQI+ Community!!! Every year, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for LGBTQI+ rights. This year's theme, "No One Left Behind," emphasises the critical need for a world that celebrates diversity and guarantees equality, freedom, and justice for all. While recent years have seen progress towards LGBTQI+ inclusion, significant challenges remain. The LGBTQI+ community continues to face marginalisation and social exclusion. We, at YNCSD, are dedicated to fostering an inclusive future where these challenges are overcome. Read full blogpost here>>> https://lnkd.in/dJgJNR5u #IDAHOBIT2024

During this #PrideMonth, communities worldwide proudly raise the rainbow flag in solidarity with LGBT*QI+ rights. While this display is ever crucial, advocating for diversity and inclusivity year-round is equally important. Even in democratic nations, discrimination against queer individuals still exists in public spaces, schools, and workplaces. At SMA, we proudly acknowledge Pride Month as a time to unite, celebrate, and honor self-expression. We strongly believe innovation thrives when individuals feel valued and accepted. By championing inclusivity and equality, we foster a workplace where every voice matters, promoting creativity and collaboration. Embracing diversity is central to our values, enabling everyone to feel a sense of belonging and reach their full potential. SMA is dedicated to creating a workplace and a world filled with love, respect, and acceptance. #diversity #inclusive #respect #unity #celebration

We're pleased to share some recent developments and initiatives across the Americas and Caribbean region, showcasing our commitment to fostering international collaboration and promoting shared values. 🇦🇷 On May 28th, Argentina and the EU reaffirmed their commitment to human rights by holding their eighth annual dialogue. This year’s discussion focused on LGBTQ+ rights, protections for Indigenous communities, and digital freedom, demonstrating their dedication to working together through the EU’s Global Gateway program. 🇨🇦 European Union Chamber of Commerce in Canada (EUCCAN) had a productive EU-Canada Roundtable Discussion on CETA with H.E. Melita Gabrič, EU Ambassador to Canada, and Brian Glynn, Managing Director for the Americas. The discussion centered on strengthening EU-Canada relations through CETA, highlighting mobility provisions and clear pathways to Canadian residency. 🇨🇱 Fundación Eurochile launched ‘Círculo Empresarial’ in April, a new platform connecting Chilean and European entrepreneurs globally. This initiative offers increased visibility, networking opportunities, and access to business experts, facilitating growth and expansion into the European market. We look forward to continuing to build on these successes and create even more opportunities for growth and partnership. 🤝 #EBOWN #EuropeanBusiness #GlobalGateway #EUBusiness #HumanRights #TradeRelations #Networking #Entrepreneurship

Talking about the "business case" for including the LGBTQI+ community has its place, but it does not lead to sustained cultural change. Here's why: https://lnkd.in/eb6Zj_Zq #SustainableDevelopment #Inclusion #InclusiveDevelopment #Equality

🌈 As Pride month draws to a close, we have enjoyed seeing lots of ‘rural’ Pride activity, and more and more Pride events happening in rural places. With events all year round, from Bude, to Grassington, to the famous Hye-on-Wye Pride, the Pride movement in rural Britain is growing. Whilst the celebrations are fun, the importance of Pride goes well beyond the parties and plays a critical role in building communities and ensuring that LGBTQ+ people can live authentically without judgement in the countryside. Organisations like the National Trust are playing a role in awareness and this from Pride Co-ordinator, Emily, describes her experience of life, as a young person, in a rural location. “Growing up in a rural market town in the early 2000s, I found there was very little queer representation. No Prides, no spaces, no LGBTQ+ education in school – nothing really. It can be a lonely experience. This is why smaller, local Prides are so important, especially for young people who often can’t get out to the big cities.” While there are still challenges, with smaller populations making it harder to build representative communities, and numerous studies evidencing higher levels of discrimination and isolation in rural communities, the efforts to hold Pride events in rural Britain are a huge step forward in promoting inclusivity and visibility for LGBTQ+ individuals. #Pride2024 #WorldPrideDay #LGBTQIA #RuralCommunities #RuralBritain

As we enter 2024, the landscape of support for the #LGBTQ+ community is encountering challenges. A recent report by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) Institute sheds light on a concerning trend: a decline in support for LGBTQ+ rights nationwide. Despite ongoing efforts, there's a palpable decrease in backing, especially within specific population segments. The statistics are telling: from a high of 72 percent supporting marriage equality in 2021, the figures have dwindled to 66 percent in 2023. This shift isn't just a statistical anomaly; it indicates broader societal changes and partisan influences affecting public opinion. Amid these challenges, businesses can play a pivotal role in fostering inclusivity and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. One powerful resource for companies striving for progress is the UN LGBTIQ+ Standards Gap Analysis Tool. This tool offers a confidential and straightforward way for organizations to evaluate their current practices concerning LGBTQ+ equality in the workplace, marketplace, and community. It's pivotal for companies to take the initiative and utilize resources like the Gap Analysis Tool. Businesses can make informed decisions and create actionable plans to enhance inclusivity and equality by identifying gaps and opportunities within their practices.
