Following the missile attacks in Kyiv today, our humanitarian team in Ukraine swiftly provided blankets and hygiene kits to the evacuees of the impacted Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital and surrounding area. The aid, which was made possible by Lutheran World Relief's Quilts and Kits program, was delivered in collaboration with the State Emergency Services of Kyiv.

Landmines, explosive ordnance and remnants of war directly threaten millions of people caught up in armed conflicts— from Afghanistan to Myanmar to Sudan to Ukraine to Colombia to Gaza.
Even after the fighting ends, these deadly devices can contaminate communities for decades to come, posing a daily and deadly danger to women, men and children alike, and blocking vital humanitarian and development assistance.
The brave mine action personnel of the United Nations work with partners to remove these deadly weapons, ensure that people can travel safely in their communities, and provide education and threat assessments to keep people and humanitarian workers safe.

Even the U.S. representative Brice Turner stated that "Israel must take all possible precautions to avoid harm to civilians." All possible precautions would be a notable improvement in Gaza. A Ceasefire is better - the goal must be to protect civilians. To be clear, protecting civilians also means protecting and releasing hostages.
UN First Committee meetings, which focus on Disarmament and International Security, take place each year. They are concluding now amidst a backdrop of armed conflict, providing clear evidence of how the use of explosive weapons in populated areas causes harm to civilians.
As International Network on Explosive Weapons (INEW) reports, many states and regional groups gave examples of the impact on civilians of explosive weapons use in current conflicts, referencing explosive weapon use by Israeli armed forces in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and the use of rockets by Palestinian armed groups in Israel.
Canada is signatory to the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas (The EWIPA Declaration). We call on Canada, and all signatory states, to fulfill its commitments via EWIPA to speak out more strongly on the protection of civilians in Israel and Palestine.

the cost of not helping could be much higher
As ww2 history tends to show us.
And the cost of human life .. the cost of so many chikdren killed, raped, traumatised ...
so many children I know personally that either lost their fathers
or children that live with fear everyday of not loosing their father ..
Who can put an monetary value on all that?
What if these were children close to you?
History tends to show us it might happend to us too if we are not helping now.
Like in ww2 with US and ...
I constantly try to remember that these people with mental challenges that run powerful states.
They started wars with minimum chance of winning.
Just like the war in Ucraine, a war they "knew" it would end with their "victory" in 2 or 3 day maximum.
More than 800 days passed and their "victory" is not at all probable by any standard or realistic measure.
so these people already proven they are not like us
They already proven they can dellute themselves and be very very wrong.
And they proven that they can order a war that kills and rapes and tortures and traumatises to many children, women, men..
We do not have to ask ourselves: will they start a war with no chances of winning?
they already did it
It is a fact.
So instead of asking ourselves: will they start a(nother) war they cannot win against NATO?
Not to mention against othe states that are not part of NATO as Moldavia or others ...
We know they did it.
We know they still persist in continuing the killing and wars.
So we can be sure they would do it.
Perhaps the only question can be: what can we do so they are afraid?
This is done with our continous firm support for Ukraine.
As long as it takes.
History shows that these people stop only when hit a wall (of fear or of loosing or ...) a few times over.
It's not even psychology for me.
just concrete histoy
Concrete facts these people like Vladimir of ruzzia have done (and the temporary circumstantial allies).
By showing support for Ukraine we help ourselves and ensure these mentally challenged leaders do not start yet another war .. but with us (like they constantly did in the past 20 years in Moldovia, Georgia, Siria, Ukraine, direct or indirect in some African countries etc)
And we also ensure so many innocent lives are not lost in Ukraine ..
so many children sleep better ar night knowing their fathers are more protected.
And they know, even if people do not tell them, they feel the stress of fear from mothers or other people at least by mirror neurons (and surely other ways too because they know).
so the only way for me is to help even more
We owe to ourselves and the loved ones.
and to so many innocent children, woman, men and people just like us
PS: The implications of iran helping ruzzia and, ofcourse, viceversa .. the fact that wagner seem to have been involved with helping hamas ... may mean that defeating ruzzia in Ukraine might deter them and reduce conflicts everywhere, even Gaza or Sudan and others ...).

"Since February 2022, the conflict in Ukraine has led to widespread humanitarian challenges, including significant population displacement across the country, war-related trauma to civilians, especially in Eastern and Southern regions. As of November 2023, 27,703 civilian casualties had been officially recorded... As of January 15th, 2024, some 1,475 verified attacks on healthcare facilities have been reported by WHO. The Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) for 2024 reports 14.6 million people require humanitarian assistance in 2024, with diverse groups facing specific vulnerabilities. Displacement remains high, with 8.5 million non-displaced, 3.M internally displaced and 2.5 million returnees...."

HIAS strongly condemns the attacks by the Russian army on civilian infrastructure, mainly targeting educational and healthcare facilities. During the latest massive shelling of Ukrainian cities, one of the missiles struck the premises of Europe’s largest children's hospital, Okhmatdyt. The missile hit the Department of Intensive and Apheresis Therapy for Chronic Intoxications at the National Specialized Children's Hospital, damaging five buildings. Ten people were injured, six of them children. One of the hospital buildings collapsed, and rescue operations to free those trapped under the rubble lasted over a day. Currently, the hospital continues to operate normally.
As a result of the massive attack, there are known to be 127 injured and 27 dead in Kyiv alone. The numbers covering the entire country are significantly higher. The Russian army's attack caused substantial damage to Ukraine’s energy facilities, civilian infrastructure, and housing. According to border guards, this tragedy has led to a new wave of refugees, with hundreds of people forced to seek shelter.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, nearly 600 children have been killed and almost 1,500 injured in Ukraine due to the hostilities. These numbers continue to rise. Despite all the risks, HIAS Ukraine staff continue to support those affected by this war. Our partners are working to address the humanitarian crisis's aftermath near the front lines.

RIP AI precision on clearly marked vehicles? Stop all violence! Stop killing innocent humanitarians! Israel could actually "easily" follow the gist of the UNSC and the ICJ decisions by creating a humanitarian solution which nevertheless includes achieving its military goal of fully dismantling Hamas! If Israel opens its borders and create Blue Helmets/UN peace force controlled, UNHCR managed, refugee facilities in Israel, it could dismantle all military infrastructure in Gaza without causing any further civilian collateral damage. At the same time would the (disarmed) Gazans have a stable very safe zone to go to with a high likelihood to be able to return home if Gaza becomes inhabitable again (currently it is no longer). The 3 strikes on the World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid convoy, which travelled along a route approved by the Israeli army, killed 7 WCK workers – but the target, an armed man thought to be a terrorist, never left the warehouse with the cars.
The strike is not the first incident in which World Central Kitchen staff were wounded in Gaza. On Saturday, an IDF sniper fired at a car headed to a food warehouse in the Khan Yunis area. He hit the car's windshield, but the volunteer inside was unharmed.
The World Central Kitchen immediately filed a complaint with IDF after the incident, and demanded the army stop the fire toward its staff, and guarantee their safety when distributing food in the Gaza Strip, which is carried out with full coordination.
On Tuesday morning, World Central Kitchen executives announced a temporary halt to its operations in Gaza, and the ship that had departed to Gaza with aid shipments would return to Cyprus.
Some residents were skeptical about the Israeli army's stance that the event was a mistake and would be investigated, as the cars in the WCK convoy were clearly identified as belonging to the humanitarian organization.

◾ In Amhara region, Fighting between the ENDF and Fano militias continued despite a new peace committee's efforts. In parallel, Sudanese refugees continued to face violent attacks by armed groups, including a demonstration on 6 July demanding better security and the release of a kidnapped refugee.
◾ Thousands of Somaliland soldiers arrived in Ethiopia’s Somali region for military training, increasing tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia.
