Before you pitch a client. Firstly break his head. So you can break his bank. What do I mean? Know what he is doing. What he is promoting. Find the loopholes. Use it as your bait. Now... Don't pitch him. Offer to help. You'll get more responses. You'll close more deals :)

I get the need for many of us to 'sell' on here (me included 😀 ) but I do see a lot of items that are giving examples of advice but not telling about outcomes. "I was able to create this new opportunity for an $ABC Million dollar valued piece of business with this approach..." Positive Me: Any help you can give to others is welcome and we're all trying to get better on here. Incredulous Me: REAL Examples are great if they are repeatable and based in reality (and have specific actions that others can take) - can you give more context or action suggestions? Misanthrope Me: Cool Story! Can you tell me when you CLOSE business with a tactic/strategy vs create opportunities? My bank tends to prefer I pay them with money, not open pipeline. Luckily - three things can be true at the same time and people aren't required to have only one thought ever run through their head. But still, the positive me is a much better starting point for most things.

"You never get a second chance to make a first impression." You are selling your community bank. Investment bankers have worked potentially interested parties through the the "Attention" and "Interest" stages of the sales cycle. It's now up to you to move them from the "Interest" stage to the "Desire" stage. It's time for one-on-one meetings. That means it's time for a first impression. That may sound daunting. It is. Everybody is counting on you to deliver. You've never done it before. You don't know quite what to expect. Or, how to prepare. It's not your fault, the industry hasn't done a very good job of preparing bankers for selling the bank. But it doesn't have to be that way. ---> Random Tuesday thought as I think through deals, hopefully it helps you. ---> Next time you're on the fence about something and you don't know what to choose, flip the problem upside-down and choose your disappointment. ---> The reality is this - when it comes to our private lending and we're on the fence about a borrower and their deal...... we'd rather have the disappointment of not doing a deal, than the "disappointment" of doing a deal that ends up being a bad deal.

Past thinking: When it's time to sell, the process will take its own natural course. Present thinking: Nobody is coming. It's not your fault that you may not know where to begin when considering what a sale of the bank may look like. The industry doesn't do a very good job of preparing you.
