HEAR HEAR Still mind-wandering at the end of my (digital detox) holidays, I just stumbled upon a very positive tendancy in my feed. The new fashion talk of the town is all about #consumerbehaviour and the importance of #behavioralchange and #mindshift in the #sustainability conversation. Recently all stakeholders of sustainable fashion businesses, pioneers and pirates alike, are jumping on the bandwagon of psychological chats and the multiple reasons why buying behaviour has become so unpredictable and is still extremely unsustainable. Indeed, considering the urgency for sustainability results according to the new legislative directives in the EU and US, consumers show far from unanimous enthusiasm for fashion's sustainability efforts. But how to actually turn the tide and move ahead? Truth is people will always buy stuff to 'improve' themselves first, and eventually help building a better world. Currently, because of massive #externalinfluences, consumers' minds are brainwashed with the false belief that 'improvement' depends on possessing 'more', 'newest' and 'cheapest'. Touching the root cause of people's out-of-control #buyingbehaviour means looking at society through a different lens, less economical and more human. What if 'improvement' would be build on a deeper understanding of consumers' #internalvalues and #personalitytraits. Rewarding this by means of a hyperpersonalized clothing style brings much more #emotionalconnection, increased #satisfaction, a feeling of trust and responsibility for all parties. Because honestly, what the world needs now is a #revaluation of personal and societal values, not the next fashion collection of the day. Therefore when it comes to the complexities of unraveling overconsumption, I think it is imperative that we thinking about how we can redefine our relationship with fashion, where the narrative shifts from quantity to identity, from excess to expression. It's time for the fashion industry to move beyond token sustainability and delve into the deeper, more challenging work of changing the very fabric of its business model – pun intended!

According to a 2022 survey by the WGSN "65% of respondents said they felt burned out due to more demanding personal and professional lives, exacerbated by a polycrisis of rising living costs, financial uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and eco-anxiety". The study is particularly relevant in light of the shifting and growing market for all categories of these products. Of particular note: • 27.5% of the total beauty market will be generated online in 2023; • Prestige Beauty products are rising at an impressive 15% year-over-year; • BOPIS (buy online, pick up in store) strategies are growing in popularity; • Both virtual try-ons and personalized products are expanding, with simulations and skin analysis growing in popularity. The INKEY List | B Corp is the perfect brand for this cohort, thanks to the transparency of its formulations and the desire to give consumers the 'knowlegde'. They support brands that reflect their values and promote innovation, celebrating creative freedom and cultural fusions. They demand products that cater to diverse needs and push for positive industry change. US-based make-up brand Humanoid Skinwear has interpreted this trend well with its debut range and an app that provides inspiration for freestyle looks. 🌟 The Gleamers: Prioritizing wellness and emotional fulfillment, Gleamers crave products and experiences that bring joy and comfort. They embrace self-care routines that blend science and alternative therapies, seeking sensory-rich and age-agnostic solutions and they sometimes indulge in 'bad behaviours' (aka too tired to take your make-up off?). A good product example? Calling Beauty's Face Fog Treatment Mist is designed for women who play hard but work harder. Sabah Yaqoob Rani Patel The Synergists: Balancing technology and nature, these consumers are early adopters of AI and bio-design.
