🌍 How to make a city with 16 million inhabitants climate-proof and earthquake-proof at the same time? These transformations don't happen in a day and require a systemic approach and radical collaboration with various stakeholders in place. It was a pleasure to interview the Istanbul authorities to learn more about their path to climate neutrality and earthquake resilience.

🏙 #Istanbul, one of the #MissionCities and #PilotCities, is turning potential threats of earthquakes into an opportunity for innovation and sustainability! Istanbul faces a dual challenge: to become more earthquake-resistant and to do so in a way that aligns with sustainable urban development, involving citizens in the process by developing a range of tools for citizens to help them retrofit their homes through the Pilot Cities Programme. 💡 Discover how Istanbul is demonstrating how cities can turn potential threats into opportunities for to achieve climate goals and improve social engagement whilst being an inspiration for other cities in the process. EUROPE, LET’S COOPERATE 🤝 The “Europe, let's #cooperate!” event was organised by the Interreg Europe Programme in Antwerp on 20-21 March 2024, on which our Belgian project partner, the Vlaamse Landmaatschappij had the opportunity to introduce the #NBS4LOCAL #project objectives and the #policy instrument ‘Sustainable Agro-Water-Landscapes’ of the Flanders region during the session “Building greater local climate resilience”. This was a great chance not only to talk about the importance of our project, the necessity to apply nature-based solutions and include them into regional policy instruments, but also to discuss about possible good practices to help building local climate #resilience. We were happy 👉 to reach experts beyond the project; 👉 to receive several positive responses afterwards; 👉 and to raise awareness further by sending more information to enquiring participants about our project. Transformation is more than just change; it's about achieving justice, equality, and sustainability through systemic shifts. Our goal is to reshape how we manage water by fostering learning and developing policy analysis tools, planning approaches, and adaptive management strategies. Last year in Mexico, we held our inaugural workshop exhibition which saw water management experts from around the world discuss the concept of transformation in water management. The workshop emphasized the importance of collaboration and stakeholder engagement in the transformative process. 🌱 Exciting News Alert! 🌍 The ARCADIA Project is here to transform climate resilience through Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) across Europe! ARCADIA (TrAnsformative climate ResilienCe by nAture-baseD solutions in the contInentAl bio-geographical region) project is poised to revolutionize the adoption of NBS for climate adaptation in eight European regions. 🇪🇺 With a consortium of 43 partners spanning 9 countries and a budget of €18.586.620 (€17.562.795 of EC contribution), ARCADIA aims to mobilize communities and regions to accelerate the adoption of NBS. Our focus is on providing actionable knowledge, guidance, and tools to ensure local adaptation and sustainability while preventing adverse side effects. Over the next 54 months, ARCADIA, led by ART-ER, will spearhead efforts in Italy, Croatia, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovenia.
