News Alert: It’s time for you to join the FISD Team and help Nourish a Brighter Future! We have openings around the country… see for yourself by following the link in the comments. Speaking of news, KCRA 3’s Lisa Gonzales recently spoke with FISD’s own Chef David Cannata at Capital Christian School in Sacramento about helping kids fall in love with veggies! In the segment, Chef David describes two ways FISD makes it happen: through delicious, veggie-inclusive recipes like “revved up marinara” and through programs designed to expand the palate and encourage food exploration like “Swavory” (sweet versus savory). Last night the FLIK Independent School Dining team relaunched 🍴FOOD FIGHT, A Kids Culinary Competition🍴 Three teams faced off after weeks of training to throw down on delicious dishes. While the team from Porter-Gaud School took home the win, everyone walked away with new skills and lots of memories! Chef Aarti Sequeira joined us our host and MC for the night as we raised $1,000 for the winning team’s charity, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston! We look forward to next year!

Can’t wait to watch our talented students face-off tomorrow at the Food Fight in Charleston!
On Wednesday, May 8, students from Porter-Gaud School will host peers from Charleston Collegiate School and Charleston Day School for a friendly (and tasty!) culinary competition, raising funds for non-profit organizations. After working behind the scenes to learn about menu preparation, cooking terminology, and culinary fundamentals like knife safety, students will engage in a competition inclusive of knowledge testing and trivia, combined with culinary competition. Chef & Food Network personality Aarti Sequeira will host this year’s event, focusing on fostering a unique sense of community, team building, leadership, and problem solving. Students will create two dishes judged by a panel of judges including and Chef & Owner of Charleston’s da Toscano, Michael Toscano as well as FLIK Independent School Dining’s Adam Byrne, VP of Operations. Dishes will be judged based on: Taste, Presentation, Creativity, Team Participation, and Sanitation. At the end of the competition, the winning team will be awarded a cash prize to donate to a charity of their choice.
Meet Aarti Sequeira, Celebrity Chef, at the FISD Food Fight in Charleston on May 8!

Book Bites in action! Rebecca Herrmann, RDN brought this program to life recently at National Cathedral School!
📚🥗 Earlier this month, NCS welcomed FLIK Independent School Dining (FISD) dietitian Rebecca Herrmann to present a lesson to Lower Schoolers. Herrmann read "A Garden in Your Belly," 🥦 🍽️ a book by Masha D’Yans, and taught students about various food options and resources for nutrition education. 🍏 During lunchtime, students participated in an interactive tasting and learned about microbiomes and gut health. A kombucha tasting was a hit among the students, adding a fun twist to their dining experience! 🌟 The presentation was part of “Book Bites,” one of FISD’s signature programs designed to help schools incorporate wellness-centered themes into the classroom. #NCSFunLearning #NationalNutritionMonth #FunLearning
