#CPFDSoftware announced that it has entered into a software licensing agreement with Simonpietri Enterprises LLC to model gasification reactions to generate clean #hydrogen fuel out of construction and demolition debris solid wastes. This modeling will be accomplished as part of SEL’s waste #gasification work under a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) competitive subrecipient agreement with the University of North Dakota Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC), to demonstrate hydrogen production from high-volume construction and demolition wastes. 📢🌟 Excited to share our latest research (preprint) on developing a fast and efficient tool to predict CO2 leakage along faults in saline aquifers! Scaling up Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is crucial for achieving Net Zero targets. During the initial phases of CCS development, it is necessary to evaluate hundreds, if not thousands, of potential storage sites, many of which may contain faults. For this we need to be fast and efficient so that we can target the most promising sites early on. Our model tackles this challenge by combining a vertically integrated reservoir model with an upscaled fault leakage function. This approach facilitates the rapid screening of potential storage sites and enables selection of promising candidates and design targeted data acquisition campaigns. For instance, our tool can estimate fault leakage outcomes for a 1000-year simulation of reservoir-caprock-fault storage complex with 110,000 grid cells in under 30 seconds on a standard laptop. This computational efficiency allows for rapid evaluation of multiple scenarios and assessment of subsurface uncertainty, expediting the early screening phase and accelerating CO2 storage project development in geologically complex settings.
