I’m concerned the Biden administration’s hands-off approach to trade is preventing the U.S. auto industry from reaching its full potential. It was disappointing to see the administration fail to reach an agreement on the Trade Pillar of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). At Autos Drive America, we advocate for trade policies that open new markets, create level playing fields for competition, and contain enforceable provisions to support the ongoing domestic manufacturing boom. While we welcome the Commerce Department’s conclusion of Pillars II, III, and IV, and believe that they could play a valuable role in future chain disruptions, it does not make up for the fact that we are effectively letting others take the lead on trade in a critical region. This week, Autos Drive America submitted comments to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on Promoting Supply Chain Resilience. Our member companies require both a resilient supply chain and open trade to continue delivering the highest quality for customers and to remain competitive on a global scale. “As the Administration develops and implements policies that support growth and investment in domestic manufacturing and services, it is essential that it bear in mind that open trade and investment policies will remain foundational for achieving these objectives,” said Jennifer Safavian, CEO of Autos Drive America. “Open trade and investment policies create a competitive economic environment that promotes innovation and ensures that U.S. manufacturers can effectively compete globally based on both cost and quality.” Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/esCdX3-V

We had a great day hosting the UK Automotive Council at the Shoosmiths offices last week to discuss all things “Connected and Automated Mobility”. It was our first meeting since the change in Government and it was positive to hear that: 💰 economic growth, wealth creation, and sustainability are central to Labour’s plans for the UK: CAM can attract businesses into the UK, create highly skilled roles, and support the decarbonisation of transport. 📈 an industrial strategy unit is being formed to develop a coherent plan for the manufacturing sector: CAM can reinvigorate and future proof the UK automotive industry. 🚗 Labour is focussing on improving transport networks across the UK: CAM can increase efficiency and connectivity and improve nationwide productivity. 🏭 ministers have already been out visiting OEMs across the country: demonstrating the importance of automotive to the UK’s economic outlook. Lots of work to be done but hopefully exciting and prosperous times ahead for UK automotive and the UK more generally.

In fact, for Chinese sellers, whether they are factories or trading companies, they need to purchase raw materials or finished products from third parties. Based on our procurement experience, if the price is significantly lower than the market price, there must be a problem. Another situation is that the seller intentionally uses low prices to attract buyers, and after the transaction, they will tell the buyer that the quality is not as you expected. If you want the quality to meet the standard, additional fees will be required. You can't always want to use Toyota's budget to buy Mercedes Benz's quality So here is the picture below, which vividly illustrates the problem

After eight months, Mercedes-Benz AG finally shipped me the spare part for my VAN. EIGHT MONTHS. It's not a security or mechanical part, just a functional one. Nonetheless, the delay and additional installation costs are unbelievable, highlighting issues in production, warehouse management, logistics, and customer relationships within the company. When a Premium Price company fails to deliver value, it risks being perceived as simply "too expensive," killing its future. This lesson is crucial for all companies across markets. The challenges faced by most European automotive giants like Volkswagen and BMW contrast with the rapid advancements in design, materials, time-to-market, and services by Eastern brands. The "Chinese car invasion" reflects a broader shift in the industry dynamics, urging European brands to reevaluate and redesign their strategies before it's too late. This is only a small part of a major overview of most European industrial strategies. Europe seems frozen for several years.... but it is waiting for what? Must we blame all this on the COVID pandemic or the Ukraine war...... or something else is continuing to missing? What is missing?

3wNOW, Chicago's very best source of news across the board. Thanks in no small part to their editor Jim Kirk. Of course, the addition of John Kass would make it Pulitzer-worthy.
