Well, here’s one we haven’t seen before. In order to apply for a grant from CHIK FIL A (https://lnkd.in/gGy-Syt) you have to share photos, and of course the accompanying photo releases. But wait, not the photo releases that you already have from your participants…. You have to use Chik-fil-A’s specific form. So your choices are 1. Take new photos and collect photo releases specific to this grant, or 2. Track down everybody appearing in older photos and get them to sign new photo releases specific to this grant. Just to apply. What a pain in the chicken sandwich! Come on, CHIK FIL A, is this really necessary? We’ve already talked about the problems with requiring video footage of service recipients. Photos are not much better. And really, if you must have photos, surely you can find a way to accept what applicants already have. Tell us all about your own Crappy Funder right here! 📢 https://lnkd.in/gStX7dBd Or tell us about your Courageous Funder here! ⭐ http://bit.ly/3OOobRf

  • A sassy, irritated burrowing owl, shown from the shoulders up, looks back over its shoulder to stare you down. It is not happy about your obnoxious grant requirements.
Followed by the text of said obnoxious grant requirements: "A release form from your organization can be included but cannot be used as a substitute." - Chik-fil-A

There's some good in this world. And it's worth fundraising for.

Not to mention the funder is CHIK-FIL-A!

I wouldn’t include a single one without a Pride flag prominently displayed. On the table. On the floor. Participants wrapped in them.

Of course, this is also an anti LGBT company. I get that nonprofits have to take money where they can find it, but if there's any other choice... Receipts: https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a36622217/chick-fil-a-owner-donations-against-equality-act/

And that’s in addition to associating your organization with a company that is deeply homophobic.

This one can honestly be used as an opening case example/discussion for a class -- name EVERYTHING WRONG ABOUT THIS.

Oof… never heard of supplying photos BEFORE you are even granted. I would be concerned that they could use those photos without funding you….

Why? Using my aggravated voice, but also using my curious voice. Seriously, why? If their internal legal team is so concerned that applicant’s releases will be inadequate, don’t require photos. Also, this requirement tells me Chik-fil-A is more interested in giving grants for their PR than to actually address any issues in communities.

Whoa. Grade A 💩. Not surprised given their homophobia and other poor practices.

Just to APPLY?!?!?! And just curious, does their release form give them the rights to use these images even if you don't receive funding?! 😱

You also have to be nominated and then compete in a social media popularity contest to win any significant funding. We chose not to apply at a former organization because it was actually a job for the Marketing Manager, then had to proceed to explain Marketing vs fundraising to the Director of Development.
