Elemental Wright - Meet Pentimento Pentimento is based on a drawing made by Vernon D. Swaback, one of Wright’s apprentices. It is a systematic floral pattern that expresses the inherent geometry in nature. Different weaves and a special slub yarn are used in specific areas of the floral pattern to create tactility and depth, while still retaining the delicate, hand-drawn quality of the original work. Myth Busting - Work Experience If you offer a placement you don't get given a student to take, you can interview and find the student to find who's the best fit for your business. This is a win win, you know who you're getting and the students get valuable interview experience, we all know how daunting interviews are! Extra win, if you have a staff mentor you are looking to be on an interview panel for the first time, they can also use this as practice. In the New Forest Sam Sutton takes this approach as their work in outdoor activities is niche it's important to have the right student to ensure the experience is great for them and for Sam's team. New to the Nest! Get to know Capstone Program Assistant Drew Finn! Q: How did you get into your current line of work?   A: I first got into this line of work by volunteering in high school for a program that helped people with disabilities play flag football.              Q: What’s something that has surprised you about Cotting or working at Cotting? A: I was surprised by how inviting it was to work here. When I first walked in every person came up and introduced themselves to me. Q: What’s an accomplishment that you’re proud of? A: Graduating from Merrimack College with honors this past spring.                     Q: What’s something most people don’t know about you?  A: Something most people don’t know about me is that I do a lot of cooking.                     Q: What’s the top destination on your must-visit list? Thank you to Sprague Operating Resources LLC and Trucking Association of New York for hosting the MaiiC Inside Industrial tour with the senior automotive class from Alfred E. Smith High School in the South Bronx! Inside Industrial is an immersive program between MaiiC (NYC Talent) and NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS designed to ignite the awareness, curiosity, and enthusiasm of NYC youth towards the worlds of manufacturing, supply chain, innovation, infrastructure, and technology. Students saw how businesses like Sprague are not only keeping NYC supplied and warm today, but leading the transition to the green economy tomorrow. By integrating Renewable Diesel, an advanced low carbon, plant-generated liquid fuel that helps achieve immediate, substantial emissions reduction, more buildings and fleets will have a cleaner alternative until full electrification is possible. New York City’s vision for the green economy, outlined in the Green Economy Action Plan, deeply integrates economic and talent development, and programs like Inside Industrial bridges classroom learning and real-world applications by offering tours of the facilities that make New York City function, providing engaging and hands-on experiences to design and create their own products, conversations with employers and workers about the realities of the workplace and its connection to classroom learning, and strengthening their experience with local industry. Here's a story that I absolutely love: There was a potter who separated his apprentices into 2 batches The 1st batch was tasked to make 1 PERFECT piece of pottery... whereas the 2nd batch was tasked to make 100 pieces of the same pottery. Which batch do you think created the best piece of pottery? The 1st? No The 2nd batch had so much repetition in making that 1 simple pot that it just started becoming second nature to them... hence they had the better pot. In summary, Volume + consistency gives RESULTS.
