Our theme this month is the act of transformation – like when a seed transforms into a flower. A seed is nourished and nurtured with tender care – this means it will eventually transform into a flower. Survivors use their lived experiences to change the future – this means your story transforms into your strength. Systems are well overdue for an overhaul – this means voices need to be heard to transform arenas like the justice system into something actually beneficial for survivors and abusers alike. This month, we’ll explore the act of transformation: what’s needed for it, how we can support others through it, and everything in between!

In my work to bridge across differences for a shared democratic future, one of the key questions we often ask of our many partners is what 'red lines' we can agree upon, and what we should do if those red lines are crossed. This is why the BLOCK-BRIDGE-BUILD framework is so useful in my opinion; bridging isn't just about dialogue and empathy, but rather finding common ground to then act on our shared values when red lines are crossed, and together build a society that is safe for everyone's political participation. No matter our ideology, acts of political violence, threats, harassment or intimidation are often one of those agreed-upon red lines. But what to do about it within our communities - how to go on offense to take a collective stand - is often less clear. The Horizons Project has been working on this Guide to Harness Our Power to End Political Violence, together with the 22nd Century Initiative and partner organizations around the US, to offer a recipe for making political violence backfire.
