Today, in beautiful and balmy Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) wrapped up its AI Task Force aimed at determining the safe and ethical use of AI in the classroom and leveraging the technology to aid in teaching and learning. Jagriti Agrawal and Austin Totty of Kira Learming participated in the task force and provided their expertise in AI from both a technology and educational perspective. Many states are starting to explore the use of AI in education - there are a number of bills introduced into state legislatures across the country. Kudos to LDOE for being among the leaders in this work.

Arohamai Derek but the Social Sciences are also Science not just Cognition and Psychology and they tell us a great deal about how to promote effective learning. This particularly important where social cultural and linguistic factors lie at the heart of successful learning experiences and outcomes. Its clear that many tamariki are not coming to school because the ways learning is conceived planned organised and experienced is not fulfilling for them and nor was it for their parents either- hint! Nowhere is this more evident than with Māori and Pasifika students. Because of the beliefs that one monolingual monocultural size fits all and that size is white European values methods approaches climates environments mediums of instruction most schools in AotearoaNZ -especially at Intermediate and Secondary levels who have failed to provide ling and culturally responsive and engaging indigenous tamariki. Many Māori whanau with good reasons have several gen who disliked school, tell their kids so and left asap. Note the Science of Learning that shows Māori Medium KKM bilingual programmes, Pasifika medium prog produce quite different outcomes both in attendance, engagement and stunning outcomes. See cience Derek and Nats /Act is not just some sort of clinical detached semi medical process .It’s about real people who like real kids and can build a learning world that kids identify with, engage in love to come to,and feeds the heart soul &the mind skills knowledge and abilities ; repairing the insulting damage education did to Māori and Pacific whanau over many generations. Any thing less in Ed is giving our tamariki and matua /parents Pysdo Science without an evidence base and maiming another generation of our nations futures . Mauriora tātou
As we see the term science of learning used more in our education system, it is important that we are clear on what we understand it to mean. In this post I attempt to unpack some of this thinking, revealing how the application of the principles of the science of learning have been present in our work as educators for many decades. As educators it is important that we are aware of and informed of this thinking, so that we are best able to respond to the new initiatives we see coming. https://lnkd.in/gFwHXMCd

Putting Digital Accessibility in the hands of the content creators ► Digital Document Remediation ► Video Captioning ► Audio Descriptions ► Music Lesson Accessibility
We came across this article about a recent lawsuit won by two blind students who were denied accessible learning materials. The thing that stood out most was that one professor was claimed to have told the individuals that they were not welcome in their classroom because they were blind - which honestly is unacceptable. The students were looking to learn mathematics, something that does not rely on visual ability to achieve. Education has become far too synonymous with only allowing certain people to access it (university fees for example) and this is a trend that technology should and can reverse. Hopefully it doesn't continue to take educators being sued to see some positive change in the space! #WorldMoreAccessible #EducationMoreAccessible https://bit.ly/49IoExp

What is the optimal educational experience for our kids? I believe the education system should definitely change. My own school memories, from the time of the USSR, are not the best. It involved a lot of stress and effort, yet I didn't learn much, even though I had the best grades. Fortunately, after graduating, I dive inself-education, discovering that gaining knowledge and reading books could indeed be enjoyable and fulfilling. Here below a grear watch for every parent.
