Really enjoyed the ProductTank London event last night. An insightful discussion on the value and need of cross-functional collaboration in the product space, and how to orchestrate that.
Some personal takeaways:
🫱🏻🫲🏾 Orchestrate effective collaboration along all stages of the end-to-end product development lifecycle between #product, #design, and #engineering (the product trio). - I would personally add that will probably also include #data and #sales (the product quintet? 🙂).
🧬 Shape your culture and team organisation around product-led growth. To break through possible walls between teams, show value and demonstrate how collaboration will contribute to the growth objectives.
🎙️ “Real understanding can only be achieved by direct observations without a middleman.” So immerse all stakeholders in relevant interactions with customers. For instance, user interviews aren’t only for product and design, but also for engineering.
🎢 Leverage product frameworks and methodologies & define and monitor the right OKRs to move forward effectively (and avoid back-and-forth’s). The aim is always to learn quickly and reduce waste.
🪞 Hold regular retros (e.g. after each sprint), they are key to continually inspect and adapt the team’s way of working. What helped us to move forward, what held us back, what are the risks ahead, and what shall we celebrate?
