Gen Z can be really annoying. to work with. That is the opinion of Oscar-winner Jodie Foster. According to this article, Foster says "They're like: 'Nah, I'm not feeling it today, I'm gonna come in at 10.30am.'". Gen Z (born mid 1990's to early 2010's), also known as Zoomers, are entering the workforce in ever-increasing numbers. As the first generation to have grown up with internet access and portable digital technology from an early age, they do bring a different perspective to any workplace. While their approach and attitudes may seem alien (and even unacceptable) to older workers, including their managers, they key is to understand their perspective and appreciate the benefits they bring. What skills will your leaders of the future need? What assumptions exist about Gen Z employees? Are they true? Here's a common myth: Gen Z don't like talking on the phone or in person. I know loads of Gen Z employees who are brilliant at communicating in all sorts of different ways - including on the phone and in person. The truth is people behave the way they're treated. If we cling to beliefs that have no fact, we stifle people's development. So while people may believe that their youngest employees don't like talking on the phone, that's probably because they've been treated in accordance with a generalist belief that may not apply to them. What they need is someone to provide the opportunity & support for them to develop and grow. What they have is a comfort zone, not an inability. Take them out of their comfort zones, and allow them to surprise themselves. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes.

I see and hear a lot of people who have a misconception that Gen Z-ers want to be in charge of everything immediately. I don’t believe that that’s true — I believe that they just want to make things better. They want to improve things, they want to make processes more efficient, and to work smarter, not harder. Challenging the way things have always been done isn’t entitled, it’s innovative and an attempt to improve what doesn’t work well or make sense anymore. A great advantage of this is diversity of thought. As a company, if you leverage your Gen Z employee’s perspectives, opinions, and feedback, some great new ideas can come from that. Not every idea or suggestion is brilliant, but you don’t need an unlimited amount of brilliant ideas, you often only need one.

If you've been around the block, you've probably heard the phrase, "Okay Boomer," being thrown around. This, of course, is in reference to the boomer generation. But how much do you know about Zoomers, otherwise known as Generation Z or Gen Z? Well, we are here to tell you that this is a whole new generation of soon-to-be employees or young career starters. While most are still students, some are entering the workforce at the spry age of 24 years old, which is the upper maximum. So who are Gen Z? Why are we talking about them? And how do they tie into the work culture and hiring patterns of the future? #backgroundcheck #credibled #referencecheck

As a self-appointed representative of Gen Z, I wanted to create a list of common Gen Z slang to bridge the gap between my generation continuing to join the workforce and the existing workforce. The goal here is to enlighten everyone and to keep you all hip and in-the-know. Firstly, it should be noted that "hip" is no longer hip. Now onto the list: Cap - to boast, exaggerate, or lie about something (conversely, "no cap" then means something along the lines of “no lie” or “for real.”) Slaps - a confusing one as this term typically has a bad connotation, but it actually means to be excellent or exceptional (i.e. "this company-sponsored luncheon slaps!") Bet - this is a term of affirmation, agreement, or approval along the lines of “got it” or “understood.” Drip - to have drip, or to be drippy is associated with being considerably fashionable. Godspeed keeping up with these everchanging terms and phrases. I will do everything I can to not allow things to get lost in translation between the generations.
