💡CADRE COLUMN 💡 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗲. As an Airman serving at THE Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy, this role allows me plenty of opportunities to meet students, have great conversations and learn a little bit about people. During some of these conversations, it has been a little surprising and somewhat alarming in the number of times I’ve engaged with folks who have concerns with policies, procedures, or guidance, relatable things. However, there is more to this point, the most concerning aspect during these conversations, is it usually starts with “I”. When did “I” become who WE are? As Airmen, we always value the relationships, engagements, and events we get to be a part of because of one thing, the TEAM! The TEAM is what we are about. The TEAM is what motivates us each day. The TEAM is why I continue to serve. In the last few years, we have slowly faded away from a TEAM dynamic and gravitated to individualism. As SNCOs, we must commit to the fact that individualism must die. We must eradicate it from our force, units, and flights. We should all look to our left and right, even up and down the chain and do what is needed each day for the TEAM. You do not always have to be a TEAM leader…more importantly, be a solid TEAM player. The most fun people have in their careers is when they reflect on a good TEAM, not their individual achievements and accomplishments, but the deeply rooted relationships that were built while being a part of a successful TEAM! To prepare our airmen for Mission Generation Force Elements, each service’s individuality is important to the Joint Force but that’s where the individuality should end. Bottom line, we have airmen with diverse thoughts, capabilities, and air force specialty codes, we can have the most organized, trained, and equipped airmen in the world, but ultimately, we will have mission failure if we are not a TEAM. -CMSgt Rich Brownlee Chief of Operations, AFSNCOA

#Honor, #Courage and #Commitment. Those three words were the first words I learned to speak at Great Lakes Recruit Training Command about 30 years ago. Would you want someone with THESE core values on YOUR team? Transitioning veterans from active duty to civilian life - is one of the reasons I joined a company I start with on Monday. Together, we will be helping those transitioning from active duty to civilian life by guiding their directly relatable experience, knowledge and education - into a work force that needs character that far exceeds "certification". Here is what you get from a veteran: 1) Attention to detail. 2) Pride and honor in work. 3) Commitment to THE team. 4) On time is late, early is on time. 5) Dedication to a project to completion. 6) Respect. 7) Presentation is essential. 8) Clear, concise communication. 9) The understanding of earned values. 10) Follows orders. If you are committed to excellence, would it not be best to hire those that have proven, by blood, sweat and tears, their excellence, commitment and duty?

Incredibly applicable to the organization these days. If you’ve got an employee who is happy with what they are doing and don’t want any more responsibility, harness that energy. Don’t force them to move up into roles they don’t want. You likely won’t get the result you were hoping for. Leadership is partially about helping others become the best versions of themselves, not the best version of what you need or want from them. #leadership #management #talentmanagement

The lack of young Americans or Generation Z recruits is causing the U.S. military to face its biggest recruiting crisis in decades. Gen Z tends to be cynical, melancholy, and inclined toward professions better suited for reclusive people. I want to share this piece with you as a concerned citizen and a proud veteran because it looks at the causes of the U.S. military's Generation Z recruiting dilemma. In it, two authorities on the subject—Weiss and Kurdian—who have authored books on the subject, share their insights on overcoming obstacles and seizing possibilities while interacting with this generation. The author of "We Don't Want YOU, Uncle Sam: Examining the Military Recruiting Crisis with Generation Z," Weiss, contends that the military must be more truthful and aggressive with its perks offerings since Gen-Z appreciates openness and trust. He also makes the point that the military may provide Gen-Z with a sense of purpose and community through its community and mission. Retired U.S. Navy captain named Kurdian emphasizes that the military needs and wants Gen-Z since they have the knowledge, drive, and other attributes necessary for the security and prosperity of the country. Additionally, he issued a warning, saying that the military should uphold its tradition of excellence rather than cut corners or compromise on quality. I concur with them both that Gen-Z has much to offer the military, and the military has plenty to offer Gen-Z. To connect with this generation and meet their wants and goals, I also think the military must modify and modernize its recruiting practices. Here are some possible ways the military could recruit Gen Z: Emphasize the significance and intent of military service. The military can provide Gen Z with the opportunity to change the world, as they seek meaning and connection in their job. Provide mentorship. Gen Z looks to its leaders for guidance and encouragement, and the military may provide them with a strong sense of belonging. Modify the incentives and pay scale. Gen Z is worried about their financial future and wants to be compensated for their achievements. The military can provide them with competitive benefits, including education, retirement, and bonuses. Make use of their practical knowledge and abilities. Because Gen Z is eager to learn and develop, the military can provide them with a variety of demanding situations that can improve them. Please don't be deceived by this quote, driving a Rolls Royce will not fill the void that only a degree can fill. We live in a complex society and success is no longer measured only by what you drive. In the past era, success was measured by number of sl@ves you own. In Africa, it was measured by number of wives and land you own. At various times, success had new meanings.... There was a time that success was measured by Only what you drive. But in today's world, in this generation, success is measured by the following: 1. Influence 2. Wealth 3. Solutions you created or solutions you studied through academic activities 4. Family values 5. Then what you drive or how you party etc. If you drive a Rolls Royce in a city where you are the only owner of a Rolls-Royce, you will be worshipped and nobody will care about your academic background in such city. But the moment you join a community where everyone drives a Rolls Royce or can afford to drive it, your Rolls Royce will lose value and a void will surface. What will distinguish you will be the 5 elements mentioned above.
