This week is Dyslexia Awareness Week. It is believed that around ten percent of the population are dyslexic, but it is still often poorly understood. Dyslexia is a neurological difference and can have a significant impact during education, in the workplace and in everyday life. As each person is unique, so is everyone's experience of dyslexia. It can range from mild to severe, and it can co-occur with other learning difficulties. It usually runs in families and is a life-long condition. With the right support, the strengths and talents of dyslexic people can really shine. The theme this year set by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) is ‘Uniquely You”. You are special. You are distinctive. You are exceptional. If you are unsure what dyslexia is, find out more here in this video from BDA and read about the signs of dyslexia, getting diagnosed, and how to get involved in Dyslexia Awareness Week. https://hubs.ly/Q023YGfG0 #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek #DAW23 #UniquelyYou

From 2nd to 8th October 2023, it is dyslexia awareness week a celebration from all backgrounds and walks of life. This is a time to learn about individuals and their journeys with dyslexia and discovering the diversity of experiences within our community. While having dyslexia can present its challenges, it also shapes one’s experiences and perspectives, making each individual unique. The theme for the week is #UniquelyYou, and this aims to inspire everyone to value and appreciate individuals with dyslexia. Dyslexia doesn’t discriminate, occurring across all ethnicities and in people from all social groups. A vast number of individuals are undiagnosed and do not receive adequate support. As a result, they face daily barriers: in education, in the workplace and in life. They may be excluded from activities, shamed for their differences or simply disregarded. It is important to raise awareness and highlight dyslexia awareness and promote the work of the British Dyslexia Association. You can find out more information on their website and do share this post to share your support. https://ow.ly/WRLM50PS4bh #DAW23 #dyslexiaawareness #diversityanddyslexia #celebratingdyslexia #dyslexiacommunity #dyslexiajourneys #inclusivitymatters #raisingawareness

How are you leveraging them for the benefit of the individual and your organisation? ✅ Ensuring your organisation understands the current reasonable adjustment needs for #DyskexicThinkers within your organisation is vital! Today kicks off this year’s Dyslexia Awareness Week, and this year’s theme is Uniquely You, a theme I particularly resonate with. As with most things, there’s no one-size-fits-all. The same goes for dyslexia. I can safely say without a shadow of a doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am today if I weren’t dyslexic because it’s given me the ability to visualise and solve complex problems by thinking outside the box. However, my experience isn’t the same for everyone. I’m constantly hearing fantastic stories from others that reinforce just how unique everyone’s experience of dyslexia is; some people can visualise things immediately, others are meticulous and can uncover errors invisible to others. It doesn’t matter what it is, the important thing is that you understand, appreciate and embrace your dyslexia because no one-size-fits-all - nor should it ! #DAW23 #UniquelyYou

October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month! It is a learning difference that can make it harder for someone to read, write, and spell. It's not about being less smart; it's just that the brain processes words and letters differently. Dyslexia affects millions of individuals, making it crucial to increase awareness and understanding. Here are a few points to support the cause: 1) Education is Key: Promote the importance of early detection and intervention. Teachers and parents can make a significant impact by recognizing dyslexia signs in children. 2) Advocate for Accessibility: Encourage workplaces and schools to implement dyslexia-friendly practices, such as accessible materials and assistive technology. 3) Spread Knowledge: Share articles, books, and resources on dyslexia to help demystify this condition and foster empathy. Let's work together to create a more inclusive and supportive world for those with dyslexia. #DyslexiaAwareness #Dyslexia #NationalDyslexiaMonth
