According to my (5 mins on Google) research, the office workers who buy into Valentine's Day the most are, unsurprisingly, sales and marketing types. Perhaps the action of drafting or implementing a Valentine's plan is the subliminal driver here - you are what you eat after all. So yesterday I read an article on a new job trend which is called 'Dry Promotion' It means you get a new title and potentially more responsibility, but your paycheck stays the same. 😲 Isn't that an absurd concept? I don't know why are we even calling it a Promotion? What do you think about it, comment below!

What's in the job title? Should they be straight or should they be creative, descriptive or just generic? can they even be fun? I remember meeting a while ago the lucky person with the job of Head of Christmas at one of the big 4 supermarkets - and thinking that was a brilliant description of a very big job. Not one for the faint hearted mind, and certainly one for someone with a cool head and a big imagination but certainly if you can win at Head of Christmas then you basically are smashing your career. So I had a chat with some of the teams I'm working with about what were the best job titles of people they have ever met and here's what I learnt - there is a job that is Director of Sexual Pleasure (for a brand that makes things to do with sex rather than ......) another great title is Chief Heart Officer (Chief People Officer), and then there is Randomness Manager (Admin Assistant) and finally Chief Chatter (head of a call centre) What are your thoughts? do you think it matters? What's the job title you've always wanted?

‘Believe you can and you are halfway there’ Maria Namwiha is what Pupkewitz Megabuild calls yet another happy customer! And no, we don’t mean client, we mean happy staff member! Namwiha has reached her 15-year long service after starting at Pupkewitz Megabuild in 2008 as a Cashier. In typical Megabuild fashion, when staff show promise, Pupkewitz Megabuild gives back. In her own words: “Megabuild is a company that respects and values its employees, and makes sure every employee is welcomed whether you are a beginner or a senior, and this is what made me stay in the group for this long.” Today Namwiha is the branch’s Buying Clerk, up from Cashier for four years with a stint as a Granning Clerk. She makes sure the branch is fully stocked and she has excelled in this position for seven years. “Discipline, hard work, positivity, and respect always pay off that is why after being a Cashier for four years, I was promoted to Granning Clerk, but I never stopped learning, taking up new challenges and pushing myself to be a valuable, trusted employee in the group. This led me to become a Branch Buyer Clerk, which I am currently doing for more than seven years. “I love the negotiation of the prices of goods as I am an active speaker and I love to be convinced, instead of just simply stating the price, sell it to me. This in turn gives a lot of priceless on-the-job exposure and training. For a branch to function, it starts with a buyer and all other duties will follow.” Namwiha oozes confidence, energy and motivation. These are not skills that come easily, but she says it is a mindset, a way of thinking that you apply every day. She says it is oh-so important to be brave and by brave she means keeping the focus, holding on to discipline and understanding that the only limits you have are in your own mind. #Pupkewitz #Megabuild #longservice #employeespotlight

Tom N.'s journey is truly inspiring! He never says "I can't" and is willing to try anything. Starting as a part-time cashier, he transitioned into plumbing with no prior knowledge. Two years later, he became a Sales Specialist in appliances and succeeded. After five years, he became a top sales specialist! In the kitchen, this means stocking up on food, plates, pans, and knives before a rush hits. But this lesson applies to just about every role out there. If you find yourself feeling lost or out of sync during the day, take a step back and assess what you need to get done. Then, make sure you have everything you need to execute in one fell swoop. By internalizing the lessons we've learned and figuring out where else we can apply them, we can continue to grow and succeed in our careers.
