Want to negotiate without being compromised? Concession. Defined as bargain items, concession is used to provide additional value to the negotiation counterpart without incurring too much additional cost to us. In a layman term, concession serves to sweeten the deal. Example in exchange for higher volume, seller introduces discount, rebate or offer. In exchange for future purchase opportunity, seller introduces loyalty points or redemption. Think what you can offer in the form of concession in exchange of something favorable to you. Can you think of any from daily or workplace experience? Retailers (and restauranteurs with merch): Don't leave money on the table! With margins tight and getting tighter, labor at a premium, use it wisely. H/T to Garrison Latimer (He, Him, His) - use your Silent Salesperson! Ensure that your sales floor is set to sell. Everything in its place, presented in a way that requires the consumer to engage. You may not have the labor budget, right people to be guest-facing salespeople, maybe not even the right products yet. But present them in a way that is attractive and accretive to your business and core products and they will sell. Presentation starts with the right fixtures and space planning (which Iron Development Consulting can help with!), but must also include the follow up of ensuring it is ON POINT every time the doors open. Let your products sell themselves. 0.0% labor.

We had a great session this Tuesday when CEOs of some of our clients got together to discuss two ever present subjects namely #pricing and then making #partnerships effective. Re #pricing the two extremes of entry level low pricing ‘land and expand’ v. zero price list , entirely ‘ (customer) value based’ were covered with multiple variations in between . Getting increased prices has an enormous impact on profit margins and cashflow as there is zero cost related ( apart from commissions ) normally. #partnerships come in many flavours from white label oem to buying agencies again with multiple variations . Knowing which one you have is fundamental as otherwise there will be a misalignment of objectives and disappointment will follow.
