Employee and Workplace Confusion (Part 2) Tackling Workplace Confusion - For Employees - Inculcate "self-care" physically, mentally, and emotionally. Get enough sleep, rest, good nutrition to help the physical body and brain health. Avoid alcohol, certain drowsy inducing medications, drug or substance abuse on the job. Make efficient use of sensory devices where necessary at all times like glasses, ear aids e.t.c. Promptly treat all infections and fever. Watch fluctuations in blood sugar levels. - Avoid/step back/pause/ take a break from work processes once feelings of unwell ness, waves of confusion is noticed in the body and the brain. This is to prevent grievous errors, irreconcilable mistakes, workplace accidents, other lethal blunders that can cost the organisation it's reputation and litigations/law suits, lethal mishaps that can cost life/lives. - Learn to deal with personal "workplace phobias" that contributes to confusion on the job. Examples - Ergophobia, Atychiphobia, Epistemophobia, Neophobia, Lalophobia, Social phobias e.t.c, fear of unfamiliar tasks/work schedules, environments and people (see post on workplace phobias) - Be willing to learn, adapt to workplace changes in procedures, processes, technology, team dynamics, leadership styles, training, onboarding programs, customer service delivery modes. - Learn and adapt HR soft skills required to fuse with the technical aspects of the job. e.g Kinesics, Communication skills, desk management, assimilation, interpersonal relations, anger management, networking, conflict resolution, job empowerment, accountability and ownership skills e.t.c They all help in problem resolution, on issues during workplace confusion. - Learn to manage stress and workplace unresolved anger. Address conflicts, observations, trust issues promptly, with leaders, managers, colleagues or subordinates - Ensure integrity of dealings at all times with all the stakeholders of the organisation. Refrain from gossips, dysfunctional office politics, rumours, pre-meditated calculating acts of sabotage during moments of anger, feelings of grievances. - Understand and properly apply the " Whistle blower policy" in the organisation in order to prevent your actions contributing more to the workplace issues, if already existing in the organisation. - Be a part of the organisation's "Feedback Loops" processes, support to help address workplace issues. - Seek knowledgeable, reliable and dependable mentors, coaches, counselors on workplace dire issues, challenges, performance gaps, when noticed. This is to help nip workplace issues in the bud. - Engage in more personal self training on all aspects of the job as it relates to all stakeholders.
