The other week at Crafty HQ, my boss Benjamin White and I were perched on those very high bar-stool-type-chairs at the bar/coffee spot in our co-working space and I was fiddling with the seat trying to scoot myself into a vaguely more balanced position as due to being only 5ft1 my feet were extremely high off the ground. As I faffed, he asked me a question that made me forget I was trying to balance myself at all: "In however many years time, when your trainee cohort starts making partner, where do you want to be?" What’s funny is that although nobody has actually asked me this before, I have thought about it a lot. I think for a lot of us who have left law, looking at our friends making these milestones and wondering 'what if?’ is something only natural to do. I know I did it recently when my trainee cohort became NQs. I was so proud of my friends and cohort, but at the same time it made me wonder - what if that could have been me? Am I happy with where I am instead? And thinking about when they go from NQs to partners one day, where did I want to be? Turns out, I want to be in the same place I am now: doing things that bring me joy, first and foremost, while continuing to challenge me. And it got me thinking of all the ways in just three months I had already achieved those things at Crafty: 🦊 Attending Crafty dinners getting to meet new lawyers and learn new things about the sector and market. Our final two dinners of the year saw our High Growth & VC and Fundtastic groups get together with some of our amazing partners. 🦊 Project managed speaker ops for Disputes Day, and all of them turned up! Win! 🦊 Week one on the job, headed to Fintech Day, found joy in the food (yum), interesting panels and Crafty Community. 🦊 Completed the Fintech Report before Christmas, in collaboration with Clifford Chance - a completely new style of writing for me, and a chance to work closely with marketing at Crafty and a highly knowledgeable and insightful team at CC in which I learned so much about the fintech world. 🦊 And finally, working with the Crafty team to make sure we bring as much fun when we do it all again next year. Here's to another year of finding joy and challenge, and in the Crafty way.

🌟 Culture is how your team feels on Sunday about coming to work on Monday. 🌟 ⠀. ⠀. ⠀. ⠀. ⠀. Something about this line really resonated with me when trying to summarize culture in one line. At BWC Real Estate, it's the heart of everything we do. At the end of the day, our vision is to be the BEST PLACE TO WORK for Dubai's top-performing brokers. 💼✨ ⠀ Why? Because we believe that by focusing our efforts towards creating a collaborative environment which fosters high performance, the results will come naturally. 🚀🌱 ⠀ Here are our 11 Culture Codes, our guiding north star you could call it. Not only does this provide guidance and structure to what we see in a BWC team member, it also guides decision-making at a leadership level. 🌠📜 ⠀ Credit to Jake Heath for establishing these, an incredible initiative to get BWC to reach its dream! 🙌👏 As a leadership team, Jake Heath, Jamie Evans, Antonio Lekic and I are confident in our ability to achieve our vision. #CompanyCulture #BestPlaceToWork #HighPerformance #Collaboration #Leadership #BWCRealEstate #DubaiBrokers #CultureCodes #Teamwork #VisionaryLeadership
Our Managing Partners, Matt Whitmore CA (SA) and Jake Heath, have developed our 11 BWC Culture Codes, in order to see the ongoing growth and dedication of our team members 🚀 Making this the best place to work for, step by step! #BWCCultureCodes #BWCRealEstate #BWCBestPlaceToWork #RealEstateDubai #CompanyCodes

As we continue celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth, meet Samer Yousif, who recently was named to Venture Forward’s list of Black investors making a big impact in VC. ❓ What do you do at Insight? (Samer) I’m a Senior Associate at Insight Partners, where I co-lead the 20/20 Vision Capital Fund, Insight’s fund of funds strategy investing into underrepresented, emerging managers. We are currently investing from 20/20 Vision Capital Fund II, a $118M vehicle. I oversee several aspects of the 20/20 Vision Capital Fund, including sourcing, diligence, and portfolio management. I work closely with our Sourcing and DGS team members to identify and back the best-emerging managers in venture capital. 🧠 What is one thing you wish you had known when you began your career? (Samer) I took a pretty circuitous route to my current role. After receiving my Masters in Global Policy Studies, I thought that my career would largely focus on politics and policy-making, primarily because I wasn’t aware of other opportunities that married my focus on entrepreneurship and racial equity. I’d push my younger self to focus more on the impact that I wanted to have, rather than a specific role, and then identify opportunities that would let me reach that goal. I also wish I’d understood how non-linear careers are and that I didn’t have to have a long-term career strategy to be successful. I just needed to focus on making the right next step in my career and eventually, I’d end up where I wanted to be. 🤝 Talk about a significant mentorship moment in your life (Samer) I’ve been blessed with incredible mentors and sponsors throughout my career. I absolutely wouldn’t be here without them taking me under their wing and supporting me throughout my career. A mentor of mine, who has become a close friend, was one of the first to vouch for me, adding me to projects and initiatives that would help me learn and network early on in my career. They spoke highly of me to their peers, which gave me legitimacy and credibility, likely before I fully deserved it. And they believed in me, encouraging me to stretch and grow further than I thought I could. That support was and continues to be invaluable to me in my career, and I hope to have a similar impact on those coming after me as well.

Founder & CEO, Bitmore Limited | Certified B-Corp | Manufacturer/Marketer of BITMORE™ Carbon Neutral Sustainable Travel Tech & Accessories made from recycled materials
Bitmore is celebrating B Corp Month in March! 🙌 It’s a month in which we celebrate – alongside the other 8,000+ businesses worldwide who now hold B Corp certification – how companies can (and should) be a force for good. B Corp, as most of you will know, is a global community of businesses measuring our social and environmental impact. We became a certified B Corp last year after a rigorous 18-month qualifying process. In doing so, we have stepped into a framework of verified high standards for social and environmental impact by making a legal commitment to stakeholder governance, that is demonstrated through accountability and transparency. B Corps make a commitment to consider the interests of all stakeholders in their business operations: workers, customers, communities, and the environment. Our B Corp certification makes sure we’re continuously improving across the board while inviting others to join the journey forward. Bitmore is proud to be part of a globally-recognised movement that raises the bar on what it truly means to be a better business. #BCorp #BCorpmonth #travelretail #consumertech
