From Vision to Reality: Elk Grove City Council Approves Plan for New Zoo After more than two years of imagination, analysis, and outreach performed by local, state, national, and international professionals, the Elk Grove City Council voted Wednesday night to approve the development of a new zoo in Elk Grove with the Sacramento Zoological Society.   Considered one of the most consequential development projects ever proposed in the City of Elk Grove, a new zoo presents a transformational opportunity to deliver wide-ranging benefits to both the City and the greater Sacramento region.   “Our commitment today is a force for good and will be a catalyst for new economic growth and collaborations that will support conservation and education efforts for generations to come,” said Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. “While there is still more work to do, tonight’s action sets us on a course toward a truly remarkable future.” The project will now move into the next phase of the design process to develop construction documents for the project. Given the complexities of the project, the City expects that process to take some time. Running parallel with this process would be the Sacramento Zoological Society’s efforts to pursue individual, corporate and partnership funding as required by the financing plan. Completion of this fundraising work, and participation by the region in this effort, is critical to the project schedule and its ultimate completion. An economic impact study commissioned for the project anticipates one-time construction impacts worth $425 million dollars and work on the project could result in more than 2,400 jobs. #teamwork #shortstory 🏺 Once upon a time, there was a group of animals 🐿️🐒🦫 who lived in the forest. 🎇 They were all very different from each other, but they all had one thing in common: they wanted to build a treehouse. 🎈 The animals knew that building a treehouse would be a big task, so they decided to work together. ⚜ The birds gathered twigs and leaves to make the roof, while the squirrels collected nuts and berries for snacks. ✳ The beavers used their sharp teeth to cut down trees and build the walls, and the monkeys swung from branches to help with the construction. 🔆 At first, the animals had trouble working together. They argued about what materials to use and how to build the treehouse. 🎈 But then they realized that they were all working towards the same goal and that they needed to cooperate if they wanted to succeed. 🔴 So the animals put aside their differences and started to work together. 🍝 They shared their ideas and helped each other out when they got stuck. And before they knew it, the treehouse was finished! 👨👨👧👧 The animals were so proud of what they had accomplished together. Good design isn't always visible. Getting good feedback about work is always a pleasure but it’s even better to know when that work is making a difference. That’s why at leapstone we work hard to ensure design goes beyond colouring in or just design thinking to make that difference. In this project our carefully thought-through workshop inspired two senior client teams to overcome some tricky challenges: “World Animal Protection invited Neal to facilitate a discussion between two senior teams because relationships were burdened by competing demands, a lack of trust, and a divided view on where responsibilities should lie. These tensions got in the way of effective and results-driven work, so the teams needed urgent help in addressing the impasse. Neal’s approach in the workshop led to a number of concrete and creative ideas that colleagues found helpful in identifying new ways of working.
