Searches for jobs or internships with Nvidia have spiked in recent months, and some college students even refer to working for the company as a “dream job,” The Wall Street Journal reports. However, landing a six-figure position at the coveted firm is very difficult – many of Nvidia’s job descriptions require strong technical skills, niche industry knowledge, and graduate or doctoral degrees. 🚀 My first day at NVIDIA was cool! 🤘, and I met the person who interviewed me. Suddenly, I found myself reflecting on the interview process and reminiscing about that time. They asked about technical stuff like electronics and coding. An unexpected challenge arose when I learned from experienced individuals that Computer Organization and Architecture (COA) would also be a topic in the interview—an area I hadn't explored until then. With merely 4 days at my disposal, and coinciding college exams, COA suddenly demanded my attention. The initial instinct was to put it on the backburner, but the engineer in me rose to the occasion. Trusting the time-tested tradition of last-minute exam preparation, I decided to confront COA head-on. Despite the concurrent college exam, I strategically prioritized COA. Interview day arrived, and to my surprise, the interviewer asked 4-5 questions from COA only. To my satisfaction, I answered each one accurately. In our first interview, confidence mattered the most because it might have been the first for others as well. Everyone has skills; that's why we were all shortlisted for the position. So, only confidence can make a difference on board. You can decide the direction of the interview, not the interviewer. This experience underscored the significance of prioritization and the intrinsic magic within our determination and confidence. Success narratives often sound like fairytales until they become our reality. ✌ The tragedy lies in not recognizing this innate power until we experience it firsthand. Here's a quick update, though this time it's not the usual positive one: Over the past few weeks, I've been on a rollercoaster of professional experiences. After facing countless interviews while simultaneously managing the demands of my master's thesis I was lucky to get job offers from some big-name companies and Ph.D. programs. Eventually, I decided to go for a Ph.D. opportunity within a prestigious European fellowship at a renowned robotics lab under the supervision of a distinguished researcher. Everything seemed in order, and I was preparing to move to the lab site leaving my apartment, and starting to search for an apartment around the lab site. However, just a couple of days before the starting day, I was caught off guard when I received an email from the professor indicating that the fellowship funding had not been approved due to an unforeseen issue. This was a shock because, during our previous meeting, we had discussed this matter, and I was assured that it wouldn't pose any issues. The professor had emphasized the importance of my commitment not to back out, and I intended to honor that commitment. This situation has forced me to restart my job search from scratch and find a new apartment in Paris, which has not been an easy task. Despite the setback, I view this as a new challenge and an opportunity to explore fresh possibilities and connect with new people. So a message to all #recruiters, whether technical or not, when dealing with individuals, remember that they are human beings, not just numbers. A simple oversight like this can have a profound impact on someone's career. It's crucial to ensure that the promises made are rooted in trust and integrity, rather than just trying to secure a deal.
