I recently finished the Novartis course, "Introduction to Good Clinical Practice." This course, spanning three weeks, proved to be an enlightening experience, delving into the intricate process of clinical trials, the International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) GCP guidelines, as well as the historical context behind the regulatory framework governing medical treatment and testing.
The course was thoughtfully crafted, ensuring ease of comprehension while incorporating periodic knowledge assessments after every 3-4 lectures. Through this course, I acquired invaluable skills encompassing various aspects, such as the fundamentals and terminology of clinical trials, the intricacies of drug development, the importance of adhering to GCP standards, the significance of diversity within clinical trials, and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory framework.
Overall, this course not only provided me with a solid foundation in Good Clinical Practice but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the complexities and ethical considerations involved in the field of medical research. The contemporary approach employed in the course delivery, coupled with the interactive assessments, ensured an engaging and immersive learning experience.

My Friday Thoughts this week are centered around having a VISION.
After attending a truly excellent Masterclass at MAPS San Diego; I want to spend a couple of minutes reflecting on that.
I have lots of “take aways” but first amongst them is the importance of having a VISION.
This was the first session we worked on and our table group landed on ……TO MODERNIZE AND INDIVIDUALIZE SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE TO DRIVE SCIENTIFIC OUTCOMES IN MEDICAL AFFAIRS.
Pretty cool – right??
As I have reflected on my own NEW journey -it became apparent that whilst I have a vision, I have never shared this!
I think that putting it out into the world gives it LEGS, locks it in, and makes me accountable! So, let’s go….
My vision is to BE A VECTOR FOR MEDICAL AFFAIRS RECOGNITION AS STRATEGIC PARTNERS.
Now that's lofty, but let’s break it down…. I will make this a reality by focusing on 2 things that are within my expertise and are amongst the core elements of reshaping “knowing…into knowing AND acting TO DRIVE STRATEGY”
1. Training to drive the highest level of competence in Strategic Thinking and Acting – making certain that Medical Affairs Teams are empowered to exploit every opportunity to drive strategic objectives and enable corporate goals through science.
2. Providing innovative Technology to make certain that the huge volume of valuable data and information gathered by Medical Affairs teams is easy to analyze, synthesize and glean insights from which enables sharing and collaboration across Pharma companies.
For the first I am thrilled to have found a kindred spirit in Helen Kane, who is a visionary in this area – you probably already know this! Our conversations are ALWAYS driven by a shared goal of providing the RIGHT solution. I am excited, and eager, for what the future holds!
Keep your eyes “peeled”. It’s going to be epic! It’s going to be easy! It’s going to make change!
As for the second – this is where my role as President of iGen is going to be a game changer. I hear, many times every week, that Medical Affairs needs a system that takes ALL the data it accumulates and examines this “ocean of information” to surface TRUE insights that enable next best action and drive achievement of objectives.
Over my long career in Pharma, I have watched us go from notebooks and a Filofax (showing my age) to AI and Machine Learning and the speed of this change is now so impressive that we can barely keep up with all that it brings. Our team at iGen are up to that task, and more, and have created a performance partner in our NEXT GENERATION system…. making it easy to gather ALL your data in one place, analyze and synthesize it to elevate insight, report on it's impact and drive strategy. I'm thrilled – are you interested to know more?
As year-end barrels towards us all, I am elated to be leaning into my vision and to the opportunity to achieve something amazing!
Watch this space!
