I provide life skills using problem-solving for middle school students to build resilience, value and safety for all.
I am honored to have had the opportunity to speak and share with Eastern Illinois University about my first book, Lead with Two Rules: Feeling Good and Feeling Safe with an official publication date of February 7th. EIU is a special place as I am a two time graduate, my daughter also graduated from here as well and I have a granddaughter who is also considering teaching as a career who may also decide to attend EIU. The Two Rules are simple, but when implemented they reach deeper into life long skills all children need: Feel Good: Everyone who walks through the doors of this school is going to feel good about being here. Feel Safe: Everyone who walks through the doors of this school is going to feel safe while they are here. These rules guide our actions and decisions. Before saying or doing something, we encourage everyone to ask themselves: "Is this going to make me feel good? Is this going to make me feel safe? Is this going to make others feel good? Is this going to make others feel safe?" If the answer is no to any of these questions, you have identified a problem in need of a solution. Remember, you have a choice: I often tell our students, "You can choose to be part of the problem or part of the solution. The choice is yours to make." By following these rules and asking the questions, you contribute to a positive school culture. Students learn so much from following these Two Rules and as a school implementing this philosophy we address all of the needs of students like mental health and trauma. #TwoRules, #Leaders, #Principals, #Teachers, #Education, #MentalHealth, #Trauma, #Book
