Site inductions, RAMS, tool box talks, safety signage, CSCS cards… What is the purpose of these? Are they in place to keep everyone safe and ensure that everyone carries out their job in the safest way possible? Or are they there just to ensure the main contractor can’t be held responsible if there is ever an accident? Safety signs like the one below are a common sight on construction sites and if the rules are abided by everyone would remain safe. The problem is that it doesn’t explain how operatives should request materials from the telehandler without entering the 3m exclusion zone. The telehandler will receive around 100 requests per day and most of these are people approaching them directly. It is not realistic to expect the telehandler to lower the forks and turn off the engine every time somebody approaches them.
