Dan Gillmor’s Post

Formerly journalist, journalism teacher, more. Now working to help those who are trying to save democracy and, by extension, freedom of expression.

The Murdoch family's rancid New York Post, in its early coverage of the Trump rally shooting, claimed the shooter was Chinese, citing unnamed "sources". As we know, the shooter was a white man from Pennsylvania. Here's an Internet Archive link to what the Post published: https://lnkd.in/g6U42tCD The story was fixed -- but without, as far as I can see, any correction much less the apology that should have accompanied the revised piece. It's useful to keep in mind that the Murdoch empire routinely injects poison into our civic bloodstream, for power and money. It is an evil company, and no journalist with a sense of honor should work for them.

New York Post has been one step above trash for a long time. No surprise here.

Dear Cronkite School Professor Emeritus: After reading your dispassionate rendering on all Murdoch media, I must confess a sense of Schadenfreude. Employing the Kübler-Ross Model Five Stages of Grief, you appear to have advanced beyond initial denial and are now wedged between anger and bargaining. I am confident you will move past deep depression and then achieve blessed acceptance. Best wishes to you in your emotional journey, Your eternal servant, Kevin https://almostdailybrett.wordpress.com/2024/01/19/msnbc-knows-best/

Dan, it's critical to recognize the underlying motives of media conglomerates like the Murdoch empire. Their outlets, along with much of the right-wing media, are often funded by fossil fuel companies at a loss to slow down the transition to electric cars, solar, wind, and backup batteries. This isn't just about misinformation; it's a calculated effort to distract Americans from significant threats to our democracy. The recent actions of the six MAGA judges, attempting to issue a ruling that undermines the foundations of our nation by installing a King who is above the law, cannot be overlooked. This is an orchestrated attack on our democratic principles. Let's stay vigilant and focus on the real issues threatening our country's future. Best regards, Don Macallister, US Congressional Tribute Honoree.

Add to that: Everyone of good conscience, as well as every media company needs to completely disengage and remove themselves from Twitter. Let the village idiots with their wild conspiracies have at it.

Horrible to shoot at anyone🙈❤️🩹
