Great session yesterday.... we could have kept it going for another hour at least.... Thanks to everyone who attended, and apologies to those who we couldn't fit in (over 300 people expressed an interest for the 25 spaces in the room). Hopefully this will lead to real opportunities for the banking and investment community to work closely with insurance to help de-risk investments into nature at scale. Some great conversations and promising partnerships emerging... watch this space! London Climate Action Week A very special Roundtable yesterday in the strangely named Chief Commoners Parlour of the magnificent Guildhall to explore the question of #derisking investment into #nature. It’s a sign that the #naturerestoration industry is maturing when the #insurance sector starts to look at products to cover the risk. Particularly in the UK, restoration is becoming quite commercial as a result of carbon investments and more recently the #BiodiversityNetGain program. We heard from French reinsurer, SCOR, about their new Nature Restoration and Conservation Insurance product that uses insurance to de-risk ecological restoration financing. This protects regenerative activities across three stages of their lifecycle – set up, initial restoration and maintaining the restoration quality long-term. Backed by the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and IUCN, it insures restoration projects against flood, fire, hail, drought, storms and more. Warm thanks to Daniel Fairweather and team at Howden. This Roundtable has confirmed a clear appetite to continue the dialogue across the risk and conservation industries to develop simpler and more standardised products.
