Ultimately we have tried to avoid properly looking after our roads for around 15 years now. In the end they just get worse and worse. In Ilkeston the entire area has been very poor for some time and we are just weaving around the roads all the time. I also note that a lot of roads with no edging are also failing at the sides. It's not just one storm causing this. It's highly dangerous and also potentially costly if you fall in one, in particular for cyclists or motorbikes. We also have not invested in proper machines that are up to date to fix the holes properly. All we get is two blokes with a bit of cold tarmac that they tamp in. It lasts a very short time indeed.
