Pioneer Mars Penetrator Mission (1974) The name "Pioneer" was applied to several different space missions and spacecraft designs. The first U.S. moon probes, launched by the Air Force in 1958-59, bore the name, as did a series of interplanetary "weather satellites" and the first spacecraft to brave the Asteroid Belt and fly past Jupiter and Saturn. End of an Era: Final Delta IV Heavy Rocket Carries NROL-70 on Historic Mission. by Charles Briggs - Space Coast FL (SPX) The last mission of the venerable Delta IV Heavy rocket, marked by the launch of the NROL-70 security payload, is scheduled for March 28, 2024, at 1:40 PM EDT from SLC 37, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This event not only signifies the conclusion of the Delta Rocket lineage but also celebrates its rich history of achievements and innovations in space exploration. The Delta Rocket series, since its inception on May 13, 1960, during Dwight Eisenhower's presidency, has been a cornerstone of American space endeavors. With its first launch coinciding with cultural milestones like Elvis Presley's "Stuck on You" topping the charts and a loaf of bread costing 20 cents, the Delta has since then completed 388 missions. The Near-Earth Object Surveillance Satellite (NEOSSat) is a dual-use satellite for Canadian scientists with astronomical and space-situational awareness capabilities. It has a uniquely designed baffle that enables it to detect objects closer to the Sun than any other instrument. Today, we're taking a journey back exactly 59 years to March 18, 1965, a pivotal moment in the history of space exploration. 🌌 It was on this day that Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov made history as the first human being to walk in space. During the Voskhod 2 mission, he bravely stepped outside his spacecraft and, tethered to it, floated freely in orbit – a historic moment that marked the world’s first spacewalk. In space, there are thousands of pieces of debris, decommissioned satellites, and spacecraft components cluttering Earth’s orbit. This problem can be solved, among other things, by extending satellites’ operational lives and removing them from orbit after they complete their missions. This requires equipping satellites with thrusters. For this and other purposes, we have created simple, cost-effective, efficient thrusters to help further the fight against space debris.
