The early bird gets the worm, but the night owl gets the mental edge. A study of 26,000 people finds people with evening chronotypes scored higher on intelligence, reasoning, and memory tests. Have workplaces caught on? https://lnkd.in/diGrXbFv

Wish this study was published when I was a kid, and my parent read it :)

I fully agree with the finding that “sleep quality”, rather than time of day, is the key. No, company workplaces have not caught on or adjusted as much as they could / should.

It's just one aspect. We need to consider multiple dimensions when "judging" people based on chronotypes. I can switch to one that suits me better, but i prefer to stay in "night owl" mode.

Recently, I "needed" a panic attack to realize this. To realize that I was constantly working against my chronotype -- and messing with my natural sleep rhythm. Getting up around 6-7AM, only to being unable to fall asleep by 2-3AM. (Weekends weren't *surprise* enough to catch up on lost sleep.) From the article above: "Going to bed late is strongly associated with creative types. Artists, authors and musicians known to be night owls include Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, James Joyce, Kanye West and Lady Gaga." Guess it's fitting that I'm transitioning into a more creative field of work by next month.

That's a Reset in thinking. People should work when they are most energized, and we all have different rhythms. Companies are still on an old leadership model it will take them decades to catch up if they still exist at all.

No, workplaces have not caught on but being able to work remote has helped.

The early worm gets eaten. I bought into the early riser routine for a bit. But throughout my life, I have always done better written in the evening. I stopped fighting it and now I work the way that feels best to me. The funny thing is that I still wake up by 6:30 a.m. but I don't start to write until late afternoon or evening.
