I will miss this view of #Basel from #Roche building 2, and more importantly the colleagues in Product Development Data Sciences (PDD) working with me in this building! This is because in 2 weeks from now I will have handed back my #Roche badge, laptop and phone. After a good 4 years back in #Roche, as I reflect back on what I worked on and what we achieved together, I feel grateful and proud. Also of course a bit sad to leave this chapter behind, at least for now. I had the opportunity to share some of the Statistical Engineering work we did here and with the open source community e.g. via #openstatsware, which shows the strong commitment of #Roche to #opensource. I would like to thank all my (present and past) colleagues in #Roche for the kind collaboration spirit and passionate driving forward of projects! I have been super happy in my role, because of you - and I am sure that you will continue "doing now what patients need next". Just to name a few of the many great colleagues, thanks to James Black, Isaac Gravestock, Craig G., 李黎明, Benoit Falquet, Doug Kelkhoff, Kaspar Rufibach, Marcel Wolbers, Jianmei Wang, Herb Pang, Ray Lin, Francois Mercier, Godwin Yung, PhD, John Kirkpatrick , Jiawen Zhu, Alun Bedding, Ryan Copping, Ning Leng, Li Zheng, Xin Li, haiyan wu, Jeff Helterbrand, Cornelia Irl, Jane Fridlyand, Ivan Robinson, Hans Ulrich Burger, Tadeusz Lewandowski, Adrian Waddell, Ulrich Beyer, Paweł Rucki, Vincent Shen, Dinakar Kulkarni, and the list could go on and on but I don't want to make this post too long 😅 thanks to all of you! So why do I leave Roche and also Basel at all? Because me and my wife want to realize our dream of living in #Taiwan for a couple of years, close to my wife's family, and we are super excited and very much looking forward to enjoying the amazing food, improving my Chinese, discovering the island and surrounding countries, and watching our son spend time with his grandfather in his tropic vegetable garden. In 6 weeks from now, we will already be living in #Taipei. And with that, a new working chapter will start as well. But I won't just break the news about that now, but very soon - stay tuned!
It's been an absolute pleasure working with you Daniel - and looking forward to your return 😉 You can be really proud of the team you built in Roche, and the energy you brought to driving forward the translation of statistical methods into re-usable code at the industry level.
Good luck to you, Carrie and Ben on your new adventure in Taiwan. I know we will be in touch (see you at PSI).
Hope all goes well with your move. We'll look you up when we are in Taiwan in January/February
I am so happy for you and your family Daniel Sabanés Bové! Hope to see you in ASA biopharm again! ps: Taiwan cycling route #1 has been on my bucket list for years and maybe we'll meet again sometime not too distant :) And I hope you enjoy the ski resorts in Asia!
All the best for your next adventure, and looking forward to meeting at PSI over the next few days :)
All the best for your exciting new journey! Knowing more details about it, there’s surely a lot of opportunity ahead.
You’ll be greatly missed, Daniel! You’re a one-of-a-kind talent, always kind/thoughtful. I learned a lot collaborating with you. Thank you and good luck to you and your family!
Wish you well Daniel. It's been a pleasure to know you and your life/work is inspiring!
Best wishes for your new adventure. Your open source R packages have been so useful for so many, thank you for those and hope you will continue! Enjoy Taiwan!!!!
