Chief Technology Officer at Roblox

Last week, after over 4 years with Roblox, I announced that I’ll be leaving the company in May. I will spend the next few months supporting the team through this transition It’s been an incredible ride: I love this company, all of the people I’ve worked with over the past four years, and the vision we're building toward. I feel we’ve built one of the strongest technical teams in the industry and we continue to get even stronger every day. This team has enabled me to grow tremendously and have always pushed me to be better.  I’ve realized, however, that there are times in life when you have to take the plunge into the “next thing”. For now, my next thing will all be about curiosity and optionality.  I don’t plan to take another operator role for now, instead focusing on my board and advisory work.  I’m especially looking forward to the freedom to dig into some technical areas I’m curious about.  But overall it’s not yet fully planned out. I cannot fully predict where this new path will lead, but I’m looking forward to the chance to find out.

As somebody who took a sabbatical (also after 4 nice years at Roblox), freedom to look into "whatever you want" is quite nice! I read/watched things from "transformers in LLMs" to military drones or game multiplayer. I even looked at Roblox games and Roblox competition (I think I understand this market a lot better than even when I actually worked at Roblox hehe). Enjoy whatever you plan to do! 4+ months in sabbatical, I feel like I should start narrowing down what to do next... Freedom is great, but I like "achieving results" :)

My very best wishes! Roblox has done amazingly well on your watch.

People can change their minds, I think you are needed for Roblox more than I thought. There might me some other ways available for you to stay. Things can change and do not leave Roblox.

Wishing you the best in this next chapter of life. Of course, we will make the best of your remaining months at Roblox.
