Capitec's MVNO is contributing positively to Capitec bank’s earnings Capitec Connect, the mobile virtual network operator (#MVNO) of the South African retail bank Capitec, generated R35 million ($1.8M) in net transaction and commission income for the period 1st March 2023 to 29th February 2024. This represents a R42 million ($2.2M) year-on-year increase, as #CapitecConnect recorded a R7 million ($364K) loss the year before. However, the MVNO only launched on 26 September 2022 and the R7 million loss represents its first five months of operation. Capitec CEO Gerrie Fourie revealed the figures in his presentation of the bank’s annual results released today. Fourie said the MVNO is an important component of Capitec's overall strategy, as it helps the #bank to understand and optimise their client experience better, and he added that Capitec Connect will be launching “quite a lot” of new products in the coming months.
