Speech-Language Pathologist | Private Practice Consultant | Creator of the Start & Grow Your Private Practice Programs | Author | Business Coach for SLPs & OTs | Podcast Host | Speaker
Let's say you have a new client - or an existing client - and you have some questions about things like their: ✅Diagnosis ✅Performance at school ✅Progress in OT/PT ✅Medical history and you want to talk to their physician, teacher, specialist or current/former clinician. You need written permission to talk to them. Because of HIPAA and privacy laws, you need expressed written permission to contact other providers to discuss your client. If you don't get this, you could be opening yourself up for a lawsuit. Don't just assume that their privacy form will cover you - use your own Permission to Exchange Information form. I know you know this - but you would be surprised how many private practitioners don't have these extra protections in place. You know what they say about assumptions 😉 I recently added a Permission to Exchange Information Form to the Private Practice Forms set. You need to have your client sign a new one of these for each professional you want to contact. Keep everything on the up and up and make sure you're protecting yourself AND your clients! Click Here to get your Permission to Exchange Information Form (and the full Clinic Form Pack) https://lnkd.in/dSuPav3C Privacy is important. You need to have expressed written permission to communicate with other professionals about the history and status of your clients. Don't skip this step or rely on someone else's form to protect you. You need this form coming from your private practice. Jena

Confidentiality and HIPAA Compliance in Medical Malpractice Cases https://bit.ly/39uqLHc | (833) MY-LAWMD Confidentiality in Malpractice: The Role of HIPAA Medical malpractice litigation intertwines with patient privacy, primarily governed by HIPAA: 1. Protected Health Info: Despite a lawsuit, a patient's health information remains confidential unless required for case resolution. 2. Authorized Disclosure: Only relevant medical data can be shared, and often with signed patient consent. 3. Security Measures: Both legal and medical teams must ensure data is securely stored and transmitted. HIPAA ensures that even amidst litigation, a patient's right to privacy is upheld. Remember, in medical malpractice, patient protection extends beyond just health—it encompasses data privacy too.
