I have some big news - I'm now officially retired! I absolutely loved my 6 1/2 years at Databricks, but decided it's time to focus on other things while I'm still 'youngish'. I've been very fortunate to have had such a varied and interesting career. Beginning in particle physics research at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory, getting involved with Web at the very beginning, joining a startup, working for IBM in it's best days and finishing at Databricks. I've met so many amazing people and made many good friends. I'll be taking time over the next few months to decompress, enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends. After that, I'll figure out what the next chapter will be.
congratulations, David on this well earned retirement. From reading the many comments below, its clear I was one of many Bricksters who benefited from your wisdom, patience and grace during your time at Databricks. You helped me immensely to wrap my brain around aspects of data and AI that was previously incomprehensible to me and thus helped me explain it to others. Few people I have met can explain deep technical concepts in simple terms like you can. We will all do our best to carry on the legacy you built of helping new Bricksters onboard and become successful with patience, grace and generosity. You leave big shoes to fill, thanks for inspiring so many of us along your journey, now enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Retirement: Working on and learning about stuff just because you want to. (I'm betting that's the DW way.)
We will miss you so much. Databricks won’t be the same without you! Hope you really do get to retire for real, you deserve it!
Retiring!? You are too young Dr.! Thanks for all you have done for me throughout my career.
I appreciate how you approached the job. Thoughtful, intelligent and considerate to those wanting to learn. Thanks for helping to make Databricks great and enjoy retirement!
David Whitehouse, Ph.D., thank you for bringing me to Databricks and for being such a wonderful mentor and friend to me. I will selfishly miss the opportunity to work with you closely and regularly but I am so excited for your next chapter and look forward to staying in touch!!
Hearty congrats Dave, and yes youngish, because if you're not youngish, then I'm not youngish. :) (I'm doing the math, oh brother.)
It was a privilege to work with you. I am so happy for you and your family. You’ve definitely earned it !
