Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have taken a significant step towards a high-speed rail connection between their capitals. The two countries recently approved a feasibility study to explore the viability of a railway linking Kuwait City and Riyadh. This move comes after talks in January aimed at boosting trade and investment between the neighboring nations. While the project represents a "strategic cooperation" milestone, challenges remain. Kuwait previously scrapped its own metro project due to financial constraints. Additionally, the success of the wider GCC rail network, envisioned since 2004, hinges heavily on oil prices. The project stalled in 2014 with the oil price slump but was revived in 2022 with rising oil revenues.
