🌍 Thematic Days for COP 29 in Baku are out! The COP 29 presidency has set out two pillars for the conference: enhancing ambition and enabling action. My thoughts below cover what I see as the key priorities within those two pillars. Enhancing Ambition: -Establish a New Climate Finance Goal (NCQG): Create a commitment that is appropriate for the scale of the need (we have fallen well short on size and delivery historically) -Support Nations in Enhancing Ambition: Work with countries in improving their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) plans for emissions reductions as well as their national adaptation plans (NAPs) -Integrate Nature and the Just Transition: Ensure that climate planning considers the need for a healthy natural world, not just reduced emissions, as well as a healthy and just economic world. Enabling Action: -Boost Climate Finance: We are less than 6 years from 2030 and still 5x short on climate finance. We need innovative approaches and changes to the global financial architecture to grow these flows and get them where they are needed -Strengthen Carbon Markets: Improve frameworks for market development and transparency for market actors in order to help facilitate capital flows and assurance of high-quality activities -Operationalize the Loss and Damage Fund: The agreement on Loss and Damage was an important win, but now it needs to be made actionable with parameters, administration, and disbursement criteria These goals and priorities aim to catalyze a transformative shift towards a sustainable future, emphasizing resilience, decarbonization, and equitable climate action. #climate #cop29 #netzero #mitigation #adaptation #climatefinance #unfccc #Paris #Baku #climaterisk #justtransition #lossanddamage #carbonmarkets #ncqg

David, your priorities for COP 29 are essential and urgent. Yet, despite decades of promises since the Rio Summit, emissions have risen. Where is the accountability? We need robust compliance mechanisms, transparency, and rigorous monitoring to prevent past failures. Climate finance and carbon markets must have stringent oversight to avoid greenwashing. Ensuring funds reach the most vulnerable and addressing socio-economic inequalities are vital. True transformation requires not just ambitious targets but a system where accountability drives meaningful action. I think this cop will be similar to COP25 in Madrid, number of participants will decrease to 10k-15k

The emphasis on both enhancing ambition and enabling action is crucial. I particularly appreciate the focus on integrating nature and the just transition—it's essential to consider the broader ecological and social impacts of our climate strategies. The call for innovative approaches to climate finance and operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund is interesting also. Looking forward to seeing how these priorities will drive meaningful change! 🚀🌱 #ClimateAction #COP29 #SustainableFuture
