I want to take a moment to thank Tom Falcone for his stewardship of LIPA and his many contributions to improving the region's economy and environment. I had the distinct honor of working closely with Tom on the design and implementation of new Time-of-Day Rates that are now launching on Long Island as Chairman of the New York Solar Energy Industries Association. Here is a video about LIPA's TOD launch with a special cameo. Thank you, Tom, we look forward to your future endeavors! #electrifyyourlife #timeofdayrates #solarenergy #battery

Finally, Austria has released information along with a public map detailing the available grid capacities for solar. This move will enhance transparency for project decisions and accelerate capacity expansion. In 2022, installations exceeded 1.009 GWp, resulting in a cumulative installed capacity of 13 GWp. By 2023, the installation rate needs to double to 2 GW per year requiring more flexible grid management. It's beneficial that Austria has the expertise to manage flexibility, thanks to its pumped hydro power plants. Grid capacity in Austria The capacity of the distribution grid seems to be one of the current limiting factors for establishing more PV according to the Austrian plan. There is now a new online resource available displaying the available capacity in the different substations at (https://lnkd.in/dY5RtDaa). It is a little tricky to extract all the data from the webpage into a graph but there are online tools available to do this. For example in Lower Austria ("Niederösterreich") the available capacity is limited to about 700 MVA. Lower Austria has about 80.000 PV systems operative with a total capacity of about 1 GWp, which results in an average system size of 12.5 kWp. On the page of the responsible grid operato (https://lnkd.in/drsQb7BZ) (Netz Niederösterreich) there are about 40 projects listed in order to extend existing substations or build new substations to extend the grid capacity. Some will take 1 to 2 years, some 3 to 5 years and 12 new substations with currently no date attached. In short, grid capacity extension takes some years.

Upcoming Total solar eclipse: How will it impact Texas' power grid? | wfaa.com The moon will move between the sun and the Earth on April 8, casting a shadow that moves across the state from the southwest to the northeast and impacting solar power production in the region between 12:10 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. Forecasts published by ERCOT on April 7 suggest solar generation on the day of the eclipse could drop from 99.2% around noon to about 7.6% by about 1:40 p.m. More than 26 million people rely on ERCOT for electricity, or about 90% of the state’s electric load, and solar energy contributed about 6% of energy generation in 2022, according to ERCOT. “ERCOT will use all available tools to maintain grid reliability and will continue to monitor conditions.” #demandresponse #energyoptimization #manageenergybetter
