Generally, many folks keep looking for an automation engineer for their testing roles. During hiring if they are focused only on automation then there is a high probability of getting a bad hire for the role. Therefore, having an automation skill(s) does not mean the candidate is a good test engineer. Personally, I believe following are the traits of a good and complete test engineer - 1.     Ability to find the bugs and gaps. 2.     Troubleshooting skills to isolate the issue/bug. 3.     Adaptive learner to understand the domain/skill. 4.     Explorative in nature 5.     Familiar with coding & computer fundamentals. 6.     Ability to leverage tools and frameworks to a.     Save regression time. b.     Generate test data. c.     Find bottlenecks from performance point of view. d.     Find security issues. 7.     Communication Skills 8.     People Skills
