The rapid development of AI never ceases to amaze me. Earlier this week, my mom was asking me to help her study for her upcoming Teaching Certification exam. For those of you who don't know, I've never been employed as a teacher and I've never had to worry about taking such an exam. Needless to say, I don't have the background knowledge regarding most of the content covered in the textbook-sized study guide that she has. However, I do have experience working with generative AI on many different projects. So, in an effort to help my mom, I put my prompt engineering knowledge to use. The nationally recognized teacher's certification exam is the Praxis exam. Study resources including free-use study guides, videos, and curriculum can be found everywhere online. This would be great news, however, the school district in Georgia has its own exam called GACE. I've searched everywhere. There are no relatively inexpensive comprehensive study guides, videos, or courses offered that cover this exam. GACE doesn't offer a study guide (other than the vague "study companion" document). Enter AI After searching high and low for a "one-stop-shop" resource that I don't need to sell a kidney to afford, I decided to take my mom's 250-page study guide and scan every single page into a single pdf document and use ChatGPT to create a GPT specifically designed to teach the material found in the PDF. ChatGPT 4 has honestly been a game-changer in this process. Within a few hours (and for $0), I was able to build my mom a functioning tutor able to guide her through the study guide and help her memorize information. The GPT can memorize conversations and have discussions with its users. It can generate sample questions that mimic the format of the questions on the actual exam. It has the knowledge base to cover every single topic and objective covered by the exam and can also create flashcards and store them in its memory. Finally, the GPT can also work with you to create a comprehensive study plan based on your goals and your timeline. I'm still working on fine-tuning the GPT. Nevertheless, I'm mesmerized by the amount of progress that we have seen in this field of technology. Yesterday, I took part in a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt course online. Although it was long, I enjoyed learning about management and business processes.
