Many of my past clients regularly reach out to me for help when they feel they're "stuck" in a never-ending copier lease. You'll save yourself a headache by following some basic steps: 1. Find the true end date of your lease by contacting the financial institution holding the lease. Get the end date in writing. 2. Turn in a "letter of intent" to terminate your lease at least 90 days before the end date, even if you plan to stay with your current vendor. This ensures that your lease won't go into automatic renewal. 3. Ask the financial institution for a "buyout" so you can be aware of added costs or taxes that may be included in a lease renewal. 4. Don't sign another lease, especially with a new vendor, until you have properly terminated or have come to a clear end on your current lease. Is this scheduling board at my truck repair shop an exercise in chaos or strategic genius? This shop only sets appointments five days in advance. They do use a digital system on their website for CRM / contact us and you can electronically request appointments farther out advance, but they run the next five days activity on the whiteboard, including openings and bookings that are confirmed only over the phone (Or in person). I can’t decide if it’s a strategic decision for customers to know they can get in this week where other shops are always booked way out… Or are they really just leaving lots of money on the table not filling up their schedule? I'm starting a new series "Leasing a copier for Novices" because it's critical to know and understand what your copier vendor is doing with your lease contract. There's some mystery to this whole leasing process and with my new series... we're going to peel the onion back so you're an educated buyer next time your lease contract comes up. In this series, I'll be discussing the following: The difference in lease rates and the impact that it has on your monthly payment. The different types of lease programs and which one could be best for your company ($1 buyout and FMV). Evergreen clause at the end of your lease term. How do buyouts and remaining payments work and what's happening with your new lease contract? Should you purchase or lease? How long should you lease for? And much, much more. I'm excited to enlighten and educate you... the consumer on how to navigate through this entire process. The example that I attached to this post demonstrates the cost savings that you'll receive with a lower lease rate. Please keep in mind that the local dealer is getting the lower rate from the leasing company. But many of the copier companies use the leasing portion as a huge profit center for their company. They'll add points to their floor lease rate and in return, you the consumer ends up spending thousands more that what you should pay. In this example, you can see that if you lease with the correct lease rate, you'll save $2,790.00 over 60 months. Not a bad savings for just working on a better lease rate. Sales reps are trained to sell a payment and many times, your lease payment has escalated year over year for so long that you're paying a lot more than what you initially paid in the beginning. It's critical to know the history of your lease contract. Has it been increasing over the years and you haven't picked up on it? Or, has it remained the same? If you leased a copier for 60 months, take your lease payment and divide it into the rates on the example of $.0195 and $.0226. This will give you an idea of what the copier dealership charged you for the hardware. Please take a look at your lease contract and let's figure out what you're really spending on it. #keepprinting
