One of the biggest challenges for families and children in a disaster is displacement due to damage and destruction of housing. This disproportionally impacts families who live paycheck-to-paycheck, are on public assistance, or have nowhere to go. While emergency shelters provide "temporary" relief, these families and their children are known to become "more vulnerable" after these incidents. Here are four highly recommended resources to help inform your personal and community local planning and preparedness efforts: Helping Families Deal with the Stress of Relocation After a Disaster (ATSDR) https://lnkd.in/gGngXqZ5 Human Services and Disaster Displacement (HHS) Report https://lnkd.in/gP4nrYnr Understanding Post-Disaster Social Services for Children and Families (ACF) https://lnkd.in/g5nuusZR National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. 2021. Haiti, nestled in the Caribbean, faces the relentless threat of hurricanes. These natural disasters wreak havoc on healthcare infrastructure, blocking roads, and isolating communities from vital medical assistance. But there's a beacon of hope amidst the storm—Haiti Air Ambulance (HAA). As the sole emergency helicopter service in Haiti, HAA plays a pivotal role during hurricanes. When disaster strikes, we are the lifeline that swiftly reaches affected areas, assessing medical needs, and identifying those in critical condition who require immediate care. We fly in essential medicines, doctors, and medical professionals, ensuring no one is left without help. What makes our impact even more profound is the training we provide to individuals across Haiti. When hurricanes hit, these trained Haitians become first responders, providing crucial first aid and identifying victims in critical conditions. As hurricanes become more frequent in Haiti, we need your support. Your donation to Haiti Air Ambulance can empower us to enhance our hurricane preparedness efforts, ensuring that we are available when Haitians need us most. Together, we can make a real difference in Haiti's hurricane resilience. Donate today and be a part of this life-saving mission.

One of the critical functions of Feeding the Carolinas is Disaster Support. We provide assistance to our member Food Banks and their network of partner agencies by coordinating with South Carolina Emergency Management Division Management and North Carolina Emergency Management to be a communications pipeline as well as connecting resources to those in need. This could be coordinating the delivery of donated water, food and supplies, or updating the state(s) on our collective status. By playing the role of ‘Air Traffic Controller’ during a disaster like a hurricane, we help our member Food Banks to focus on what they do best – to literally ‘Feed the Carolinas’. During blue skies and those that are not so blue. With Hurricane Idalia approaching, we are activating our Disaster Plan and are there to support. Please pay attention to weather updates and the track of the storm and plan ahead. Check out www.ftc-gethelp.org for resources to help you plan and prepare. #FeedingtheCarolinas #DisasterPrep #DisasterSupport #HurricanePrep #PlanAhead #StaySafe
