#VC24 Quote of the day 👉 "Old parts are not only reusable in 'new' bicycles, but also serve as educational material for our employees. The value of it is not purely financial but also social and educational. Education and training are underestimated levers towards a circular cycling economy; designers, manufacturers, repairers and users can provide each other with valuable input in an attempt to achieve a more circular bicycle economy." - Brecht from the Cycling Embassy of Ghent 🤔 What are your thoughts on this? What steps are you taking toward a circular bicycle economy? Velo-city conference Stad Gent Mobiliteit Gent

Are you assessing an off-road cycle path or a 'ciclofaixa'? Is the facility segregated with a barrier or with a 'ségrégation légère? What is adjacent to the path? A sidewalk or 'un carril'? And is it a one-way facility or 'Tweerichtingsverkeer'? You can now use the CycleRAP demonstrator in 5 different languages (Dutch, English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese) to assess any facility where cyclists are riding (or they want to do so). We continue with the mention of making assessment tools more inclusive and widely available.

💭🚫 Are our imaginations holding back the potential of the cargo bike? Lindsay B. explores the world of imaginaries; narratives which may or may not be true, and how they interact with how we think about cycling and cargo bikes. "The design of bicycles – when you step outside the dizzyingly proprietary world of carbon fibre racing bikes – has never been more empirically practical. It’s time for the imaginaries around cycling to catch up to this reality." 👇 https://lnkd.in/eFvhfZmn #DecadeoftheCargoBike

The Netherlands prides itself on its vibrant bicycle culture, but faces a shadowy challenge: bicycle theft. More than 700,000 bikes - 3%+ of all NL bikes - disappear each year, with daily thefts reaching alarming numbers in cities like Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Despite the scale, few thefts are reported, leading to a vicious cycle of depleting police resources, escalating insurance costs and the threat of bicycles becoming uninsurable. Clearly, the current approach to bike security and bike recovery is unsustainable. As mid-March approaches, a new initiative is on the horizon to tackle this problem head-on. Stay tuned for a change that is desperately needed to preserve our beloved bicycle culture. #BIKEBAZE #bikesafety #empowerrides #safecycling #communitydriven #innovatetogether #nomoretheft #ridewithconfidence #protectyourride #missiondriven #launchingsoon #followourjourney #netherlands #fietsen #fietsendief #fietsdiefstal #elektrischefiets #community #biketheft #biketheftprotection #biketheftprevention #cycle #comingsoon #staytuned #rotterdam #dontmissout #followthejourney #bikelife #sustainableliving #innovation #ecofriendly #rotterdamlife #cycling #cyclingtech #bikesafety #safety #follow #trending #explore #startup City of Rotterdam Erasmus Enterprise Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship Dries Dederen

📄 #WhitePaper: CONEBI has adopted its first-ever position on Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) and Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM). The White Paper outlines the critical role of C-ITS and CCAM technologies in enhancing the safety of mobility for cyclists as vulnerable road users. 🚴♂️ 👉 Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) encompass a variety of initiatives in the mobility sector mostly featuring some aspect of connectivity, digitalization, and data management. Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) use communication technologies to enable vehicles to communicate with each other and with roadside infrastructure, aiming to improve road safety, traffic efficiency, and overall transportation effectiveness by sharing real-time information among vehicles and infrastructure. C-ITS technologies can include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. Connected, Cooperative, and Autonomous Mobility (CCAM) is a vital component of the ITS ecosystem. ✅ Key points from the White Paper: 1️⃣ No mandatory requirements for cyclists. 2️⃣ Improved access to datasets. 3️⃣ Include cycling in more research projects. 4️⃣ Support for safe infrastructure to support the growth of cycling and the cycling industry in Europe. 5️⃣ Increased funding for cycling and the cycling industry in EU programmes and initiatives. ➡️ Developed by industry experts in cooperation with cycling associations including European Cyclists' Federation and Cycling Industries Europe under the coordination of CONEBI Policy Officer Mathias Hierl, this document will serve as a reference point for future dialogue with European Institutions. It aims to strengthen policy and funding opportunities to benefit cyclists across Europe. ⤵️ Read the White Paper below or on our website https://lnkd.in/dsnmuUTb to learn more about how we're working to make cycling safer. #CONEBI #ECF #CIE #WhitePaper #Cycling #CyclingIndustry #CyclingInEurope #CCAM #Bicycle #BicycleIndustry #Europe #EU

Some green #commute facts for the day 🚲The most common reason cited by non-cyclists for not #cycling to #work is the lack of infrastructure. (The Journal Of Transport And Health) 📅In some cities, cycling to work has been shown to save commuters time compared to #driving. This is especially true in cities where cycle routes, facilities and schemes have been put into place. (MIT Technology Review) 🚴In Copenhagen, about 37% of people cycle to work on a daily basis. (Copenhagenize) 🛣️In Germany, over 30% of cyclists cycle over 30 km per week, which is classed as “long distance” cycling.
