Standard 11: Children associated with Armed forces or armed groups are: 1️⃣ All children – including girls – under age 18 who are, or have been, recruited or used by an armed force or group in any capacity. 2️⃣ Recruitment refers to the compulsory, forced or unforced enlistment of any child into any armed force or armed group. 3️⃣ Unlawful’ recruitment and use refers to the recruitment or use of children under the minimum age allowed in relevant international treaties or national law. 4️⃣ Recruitment and use of children are recognised as some of the worst forms of child labour. 5️⃣ Children are used by armed forces or armed groups in many different roles such as: Combatant ✔️ Checkpoint or prison guard ✔️ Minelayer ✔️ Human shield, ✔️ Suicide bomber ✔️ For sexual purposes ✔️ Cook or domestic labourer, ✔️ Spy ✔️ Porter ✔️ Other purposes ✔️ 6️⃣ These children are often forced to witness, experience, and commit abuse, exploitation, or violence. 7️⃣ Recruitment and use deprive children of their rights an have immediate and long-term negative consequences for the socio-economic, psychological, and physical health of children, families, and communities. ****  “There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. CHRIPS, in consortium with USAID, Mercy Corps and Kenya School of Government convened the USAID Sauti National Conference that started yesterday on 12th March 2024. The focus of the 1.5 day conference is on research, policy, and programming aimed at fostering Whole-of-Government (WoG) and Whole-of-Society (WoS) responses to violent extremism in Kenya. Here are the highlights from Day 1: 1/ Evolving Implementation to Counter Violent Extremism: Participants delved into the evolving strategies and methodologies for implementing counter-violent extremism initiatives, emphasizing adaptability and innovation in response to dynamic challenges. 2/ Violent Extremism Themes Across Counties: Insights were shared regarding the diverse manifestations of violent extremism across different counties in Kenya, highlighting the need for tailored approaches informed by local context and dynamics. 3/ PCVE Reflecting International, Local, and Political Dimensions: The intersectionality of international, local, and political dimensions in preventing and countering violent extremism was explored, underscoring the importance of nuanced and comprehensive approaches. 4/ Trust Deficit Between Government Agencies, Communities, and Civil Societies: Panel discussions shed light on the existing trust deficit between government agencies, communities, and civil society organizations, emphasizing the imperative of fostering collaborative partnerships and enhancing communication channels. 5/ Progress of Continuous Learning to Contextualize Programming: Participants examined the progress made in integrating continuous learning mechanisms into CVE programming, with a focus on adapting interventions to suit evolving socio-political landscapes and community needs. 6/ Resource Constraints for Mobilization: The challenges posed by resource constraints for mobilizing effective CVE initiatives were deliberated, with an emphasis on leveraging existing resources efficiently and exploring innovative funding mechanisms. Hi all ... have received this note from the NPYWC Domestic & Family Violence Service (DFVS) in central Australia: "In the first three weeks of January 2024 over 300 phone calls have been received from women experiencing domestic violence in the remote NPY lands (population around 6000) (see map https://lnkd.in/g8varru4 ) As temperatures soar in Alice Springs, the NPYWC Domestic & Family Violence Service (DFVS) has been met with a very high number of calls for support by Anangu women fearing for their safety in remote Central Australian communities. NPYWC case workers organise complex evacuations and safety plans for women in very remote communities that may not have immediate access to police, emergency accommodation or transport. This summer has been alarming as workers face a barrage of urgent calls for support. In what is a national crisis, remote Anangu women experiencing domestic violence face greater barriers in finding safety in comparison to women in urban areas. Anangu women reside in some of the most remote areas of Australia that are often a blind spot for funding and infrastructure around domestic and family violence. Significant cultural and language barriers can also inhibit interaction with services and emergency support. Anangu women continue to respond to and resist violence with courage and perseverance, never giving up on their hope for a future free from violence. They put their trust in NPYWC for culturally safe and responsive support. This is why the demand for help is greater than ever. Our capacity to respond is also being pushed to the limit. We want to make sure these Anangu women are not forgotten, and that resources to support the safety of women and children are expanded to meet the need of remote Central Australia. 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦 On 12 February 2024, the United Nations commemorate the second 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝐷𝑎𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑉𝑖𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐸𝑥𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑚 𝑎𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑇𝑒𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑚 (#PVEDay). On 15 January 2016 the Secretary-General presented a Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism to the General Assembly. This plan highlights the 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗺. In particular, it calls for encouraging “individuals to leave violent extremist groups by (…) providing them with educational and economic opportunities”; for developing “local and family-based mentorship programmes (…) focusing on vulnerable individuals”; for building “the capacity of women and their civil society groups”; for implementing “education programmes that promote “global citizenship”, soft skills, critical thinking and digital literacy”; and for “equipping people with the skills needed to meet local labour demands through relevant education opportunities”. Adult education is NOT only an option.   To make #SDGs a reality, 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 must be higher in national and international priorities and must be more systematically included in global funding mechanisms (#CONFINTEA, #lifelonglearning).

•Teachers pillar High school teachers and university professors in Chamchamal, Halabja, and Raniya involved in this project will be equipped with essential skills and tools to identify early signs of radicalization among students. By doing so, they can refer at-risk students to social workers, preventing the escalation into radicalization and violent extremism. To facilitate this, safe spaces will be established at high schools and universities where students in need can attend consultation sessions, fostering a supportive and proactive educational environment. •Government pillar Through this project, Sparda will organize masterclasses for local government officials in Chamchamal, Halabja, and Raniya. These masterclasses aim to empower officials to develop local PVE (Preventing Violent Extremism) action plans, which will serve as comprehensive roadmaps for supporting youth and women in the community.
