At Decathlon, we are dedicated to finding innovative solutions that enable our sports users to keep doing what they love in a more sustainable way. To mark World Oceans Day on June 8th, we proudly launched our Yulex100 wetsuits, made from 100% natural rubber—an industry-first innovation! “It’s critical that we reduce the impact we have on the planet, and for that, we must rewire the way we think all along our value chain and transform our linear production and consumption models into circular economies. But we can’t do this alone. We have to work collaboratively with other like-minded organisations and individuals. The journey wasn’t simple - replacing the main ingredient of neoprene foam (polymer) without altering the production process, product performance (a wetsuit must be warm and stretchy) or the price. But we did it! And the result is phenomenal! An 80% reduction in CO2 eq. emissions with the natural rubber compared with neoprene foam. Mind blown!” Quote: Anna Turrell. Chief Sustainability Officer, Decathlon. #Yulex100 #Sustainability #Innovation #WorldOceansDay

How can the path to a circular economy succeed? 🌱🔄 At ISPO Munich 2023, the sporting goods industry discussed sustainability and circularity and highlighted three key topics: Eco Design, effective communication and recycling. 🌿 Eco Design: From the use of mono-materials to the design of products that can be easily disassembled: The path towards a circular economy starts with rethinking design and material selection. VAUDE and Houdini Sportswear are pioneers of a sustainable future and presented their circular innovations at ISPO Munich 2023. 🗣️ Communication with retailers and consumers: Green claims should be substantiated. This not only enables consumers to make informed decisions, but is also necessary under the EU's renewed Green Claims Directive. ♻️ "Closing the Loop": If the circular economy is to succeed, recycling must work. However, it is challenging for brands and manufacturers to find the right recycled materials and partners. Therefore, the topic requires close cooperation between different industries and relies on the help of regulations and rules. Visit ISPO.com now and learn all about the biggest challenges on the way to a circular economy ➡️ https://bit.ly/47qg2J7 #ISPOMunich2023 #newperspectivesonsports #acceleratingsports #Sustainability

Last week I had the opportunity to give a talk BusinessMark ESG:RO conference about bio based synthetics as a viable alternative to fossil based ones for apparel. I also pulled findings from the LEGO Group, PANGAIA, Procter & Gamble and Carlsberg Group work on BioBased alternatives. I gave examples of where benefits can be found in both the supply chain and in the garment creation. As well as what Lego discovered around their biobased parts. Earlier today Dr. Ashley Holding gave a talk at ISPO about biosynthetics, giving a more in-depth view into them as a solution and where they fit. If you didn't get a chance to see it live, make sure you catch up if you can. He brings the science to basically. It's a tricky subject tbh, it's like everything, it's not a singular solution. But there are applications where I think it will stand out. And one of those areas is bike packing. So if that's what you do I would recommend checking out Ashely's talk. #biosynthetics #sustainablefashion #sportswear #cycling

IT FINALLY HAPPENED I did it, I sat on my sunnies! And, ahem, not for the first time! 🫣 However, now I get the opportunity to pick from our 2024 sunglass collection. With it being #earthday on Monday, I was thinking about the materials we use and the #sustainability of them. These are made with Bio acetate and we will save to be recycled. Our industry isn’t the best historically at being #environmentally conscious. However, the last few years has seen that change significantly. With more Bio acetate being used, more materials from recycled sources, with a reduction in single use plastic. There feels like a lot of change. Though I’m sure there is more we can do. Product is just one piece of the puzzle in a sustainable business operation. What about mileage? Cars we use? Electricity we use?? Packaging? Team? This definitely triggered a rabbit hole of thoughts around our future, and the impacts of what we have been doing already. Over 500,000 miles in EV cars over the last few years as a team. 70% of our office energy comes from #solarpower. What else should we be looking at? 🐺👓💚 #wolfpack #futurethinking #sustainable #recycling #eyewear #eyeweartrends

After paying for their ASKET mock neck sweater or straight-leg jeans, customers aren't just handed a regular receipt. The Swedish clothing brand (not to be confused with H&M's Arket) now also issues an 'Impact Receipt' with every purchase. The new service itemizes the environmental cost of producing each garment: CO2e emissions, water use and energy consumption. ASKET partnered with Vaayu Tech for lifecycle impact calculations, ensuring that each garment's environmental toll is transparent and traceable, from raw material procurement to the final shipping process. When it comes to water consumption, calculations consider scarcity in production locations, providing a nuanced view that acknowledges access to H20 isn't distributed evenly across the globe. Its new Impact Receipt aligns with ASKET's mission to end overconsumption. Founded in 2015, the Stockholm-based brand doesn't present seasonal collections; instead, it offers a permanent selection of 'meaningful essentials' and encourages customers to try living with less. Do shoe and fashion brands care about CO2 emissions and thus #SustainablePackaging? They do, but are your logistic operations as far as the ones of New Balance? See how Smarter Packaging for a Healthy Planet helps them to achieve their targets (source NB 2023 Sustainability and Impact Report): "... we implemented Packsize technology at our Nashville Distribution Center in September 2023. Packsize cuts corrugated cardboard into custom sizes to reduce the overall size of packaging. This process reduced our total paper usage ... by 6%. By decreasing our overall packaging volume, we are able to fit more product into our transportation vehicles, which contributes to reducing our total emissions ... of shoes shipped." Thanks for striving for a more sustainable future and thanks for involving Packsize. Find more on Packsize's mission here: https://lnkd.in/g8tebmG5 Adam Fray Lilli T. Experienced sustainability leader with a decade of expertise in strategic planning, the circular economy, net-zero strategy, stakeholder engagement, and B Corp Certification.
The #toyindustry is the most plastic-intensive worldwide, contributing significantly to climate change and waste pollution. It's challenging to produce eco-friendly toys🌿 within a globalized economy, with costs rising and consumers experiencing increasing living expenses. Everyone has a role to play: brands, manufacturers, industry associations, and trade event organizers. For the third consecutive year, #Spielwarenmesse is contributing to easing the path towards sustainability with what they do best, putting the topic in the spotlight and providing visibility to brand efforts. In 2022, sustainability was showcased as a megatrend at Spielwarenmesse. Toys Go Green, the world's most extensive sustainable toys exhibition, debuted in 2023 and was a total hit among attendees. In 2024, Toys Go Green is back, this time with its very own speakers program and the STAC team available to inform visitors and debunk myths. We are incredibly proud of this collaboration and look forward to seeing you there! 📍 Where: Hall 2 #sustainabletoys #toyindustry #greentoys🌿 #Spielwarenmesse
