Our healthcare team is always looking for companies that improve patient outcomes while lowering costs. Today we’re elated to welcome another one to our portfolio: Cytovale. Cytovale is a pioneering medical diagnostics company that’s advancing early detection and treatment of sepsis – which is the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals, with treatment coming in at an annual cost of around $62B. Sepsis is very difficult to diagnose early, and testing can take hours or days. But early detection and treatment is crucial: for every hour it goes untreated, the risk of death in the next 30 days increases by 8-10%. Cytovale’s solution is IntelliSep: the first FDA-approved, rapid sepsis diagnostic test for use in emergency departments. It uses microfluidics, high-speed video, and computer algorithms to generate results in under an hour. In other words, it’s a straightforward, easy-to-use, and cost-effective solution that addresses a critical medical need.
