The other day, I set my students a fun challenge called Marshmallow Tower. The goal? Build the tallest tower possible using scotch tape, string, 20 sticks of spaghetti, and balance a marshmallow on top. This activity was designed to teach the importance of effective team communication in achieving common goals. As I walked around observing, one student caught my eye. They were ripping pieces off the marshmallow to cement the spaghetti sticks. I had a good chuckle to which they guiltily responded, "Miss, you didn't say we couldn't." While I had to clarify that using the marshmallow as building material wasn't part of the rules, it was an amusing reminder that innovation can be very basic/simple. #Innovation #Strategy #Teamwork #CreativeThinking #Communication

Have you heard of the Marshmallow Challenge? 🏁 A few weeks back, Professor Achilleas Boukis challenged us to a nerve-wracking team-building exercise: build the tallest freestanding structure out of 20 spaghetti sticks, one meter of tape, one meter of string, and a marshmallow on top. Our team was doing well until the final 30 seconds. We had the tallest structure on our table, but we got greedy and decided to add another layer of spaghetti to secure the victory. Ten seconds later, our tower came crashing down, leaving us with nothing but a pile of broken spaghetti! This experience taught me valuable lessons: 💡It’s important to be satisfied with what you have and to not risk everything in pursuit of perfection. 💡Being mindful of our resources and constraints like time is crucial along with being flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances. 💡It's a reminder that teamwork is also essential for success.
